Observations of Grays Harbor, while I was visiting...

Well, I was just recently visiting a couple friends of mine in Hoquiam over the weekend, and just wanted to share my observations, since I hadn't been down there in 11 months...

I noticed that KBKW and KXRO AM have their own translator stations now on FM (92.7 and 101.7 FM).

KGHO sounds really good! A broader playlist than what KJR-FM up here in Puget Sound has! I was very impressed. Audio processing can use a little bit of work, but other than that, it does sound OK.

KSWW can use a little bit of audio processing work as well, but I do like it's playlist also. And the station does come in here iin Bremerton, whenever KPQ from Wenatchee doesn't try to come in (Thank the mountains toward the west, for the KPQ/KSWW battle here on the peninsula)

I don't know why there's 2 K-Love stations in the harbor area (KLOP, and KLWA). I assume maybe KLWA was put on the air, in anticipation for KLOP to go on the air from Capitol Peak in Olympia, to serve the Puget Sound area? (Which of course will destroy KPLU's translator on 88.1 from View Park near Port Orchard/Olalla).

The only stations from Seattle I could pick up in Hoquiam, were 103.7, and 106.1, and in my friends' car, 103.3 and 105.1 from Portland (don't know how that was possible!). Everyone else is either on the same frequency, or on a first adjacent, to frequencies in Seattle.

Anyways, wanted to share my observations!

KGHO is an LPFM with additional translators dramatically extending its coverage, since as we all know, the licensee is an educational institution! No classrooms, no studios, just a computer operated from another state by the same person who recently received a CP for a 25kw non-comm FM in Aberdeen.

The Educational Media stations are both full power FMs. The newest one is 101.3 licensed to Westport, and the other one is the Ocean Park station which recently received a CP to move to Capitol Peak and run a gazillion kilowatts, still be licensed to Ocean Park, and with a main studio waiver, due to "financial" constraints. Right!

My commercial friends, I think we've been doing it all wrong.

Yeah...even kids now seem to understand our government is really "for sale" when it comes to any kind of special interest legislation. I spent a day in Oly last week to testify on an issue and it was pure art the way the committee engineered the event so only one side would actually be entered on the record -- amazingly the same side that tends to fund the election campaigns.

So I think we should all raise up and fight this. We need to get our government people to create a law that wil -------

oh I see. Never mind.

Over in Pacific Beach back in 2007, I got 96.7 KCRF Lincoln City, OR, probably via Tropo. Also got 98.1/98.9 Seattle at over 100 mi, 107.5 Portland, etc. In town there's a LPer, 89.1 KXPB.
