OCA compares prank call to holocaust

The special interest group that has gone after JV & Elvis has compared the prank call to Nazi Germany, Hitler and the KKK.

For more info, including a copy of their flyer: http://www.thedoghousearmy.com/?p=26

Why is it that today a joke is seen as the Third Reich? I can understand someone not liking the bit, but this is ridiculous . . .

Say what you will about JV & Elvis, but this is a scary time for anyone who listens or works on radio!

These interest groups all need to be censored because once they start to chime in with their two cents, we get a prank call being compared to the holocaust? Note to ALL interest groups, stop trying to use the holocaust as a measuring stick for your plight. This goes to the OCA, anti-abortion groups, NAACP, and anyone else who might find it to be a great analogy to compare your situation to. None of you interest groups are being sent to camps in which your will and spirit as a human being is being broken down systematically almost on a minute by minute basis. None of you interest groups have to worry about being exterminated if you are found to be unfit or unable to work. One last thing, these interest groups need to read "Survival in Auschwitz" by Primo Levi before throwing around the holocaust like it is nothing.

And the OCA thought JV and Elvis were neing racists?

Yeah let's not go off the deep end here. Not being a person of asian heritage it is not for me to say " that bit was not anti asian, it was just a joke". Listen if you're not part of the group in question I dont think you have any place dictating whether or not something is offensive, racist etc. because it is just not your place to say, you donot have that experience in your life to asess such things. Having said that, I think it is very clear in the case Of JV and ELvis that they were in no way attempting to cause harm to anyone in the asian community. This bit was an immature prank call to a chinese restaurant which is at best the level of pee pee/poo poo humor, that was about the level of their intentions.. To even mention the holocaust in the same sentence as this scenario does a huge dis-service to the many souls lost in the holocaust. There comes a time when everyone has to excercise a little self control in the pursuit of their agenda, just becausue you think raising the spectre of the holocaust makes a dramatic point and emphasizes your feeling of anger at the bit, that does not make it apprpriate.

Tower that was a great post.

Thank you Tony. I honestly believe the problem with the Imus story, Jv and Elvis etc is that most of us here process everyting through our own prism of experience, and unfortunately most of us here do not know anything but the preferential treatment of being part of the majority. Some will quickly say " I havent received any preferential treatment blah blah blah" but most of the priviledge enjoyed is not even realized. So when somone who does not have that same experience feels pain from a certain type of remark that to most appears harmless, that is becuase most lack the inate ability to understand what it feels like to suffer such remarks. AGAIN I have no doubt that JV and ELvis are not bigots, especially toward the Asian community but then again not being Asian, the bit doesnt filter through my prism of experience the same way as it does someone of asian heritage. However I do think that many special interest groups are smelling blood in the water and are mobilizing to strike out in some cases at the wrong targets just to try to make a point.

It is a tough time for edgy radio, no doubt. Whether it be talk, hip hop, whatever your fancy, it's all under the microscope for the time being.

Hey Tower stop it. One great post after another....LOL

I really believe that JV and Elvis are not against any race. I believe they are looking to do edgy radio, but it looks like that time has gone and pasted us by. Strange thing about this bit, it was done years ago in SF and done by the old producer Hollywood. Hollywood as it turns out is half asian. They redid the bit with a computer voice and now years after the fast bit aired it is not ok. I know times change, but I think the head hunting has to come to an end. Was someone offended by this bit? I am sure they might have been. Should JV and Elvis be fired over it, no in a million years. We are country that lets people make mistakes(in my eyes not a mistake, but in other eyes yes) and then lets the say i'm sorry and life goes on. And I think if you heard JV say he was sorry you can tell it came from the heart. Worst part of this whole weird thing is that they have even attacked JV's wife (who happens to be Asian) for writting a letter about her husband and saying that no all Asians believe in what OCA is doing.
