Ocean County has a brand new 4,500 watt FM station!

Just to expand on this ...
WBNJ went on the air Monday and is currently "testing" ...
They are running at half-power until next week ..
Signal comes in halfway decent here in Toms River ...
WBNJ will mostly be an Adult Standards station, but will feature some oldies on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights with the show "Jukebox Jersey Shore" ...
I wish them all the best ...

Nice! Wow, the Jersey shore is actually getting older demographic, easy listening stations signing ON instead of OFF. First, Easy 93.1 down south and now this new station up north. Good stuff.

By the way, I'm 33 years old. Just thought you should know that before anyone starts replying "what are you, 99 years old?" :p

I'm picking it up in the car in Egg Harbor Township, south of Route 40/322.

Sounds good.

The organization is headed by father and son team Bill and Bill Clanton,
who were with WJRZ for many years.

The antenna is on a self supporting tower at a construction company
off Route 72. I was looking at satellite pix.

They should hire the guy who runs the Jersey Shore Shuffle pirate to program 91.9, if he promises to turn off his pirate station.

I'm glad we're not getting another CHR or AC station! Hopefully I can hear it whenever the tropo booms in.

Actually, he can just go to 104.1, since he runs the shuffle on that frequency too.

The should do ok as it is being run by a not-for-profit corporation.

I think they would have a rough time otherwise as we continue to lose more and more from that audience everyday. Those still alive from that era, will appreciate it.

It's coming in pretty clean here in Bayville, on my KLH Model 21, with twin indoor whips as a dipole. Nice that someone is playing the standards again on FM! And, BTW, I'm 50...not geezer demo yet!

I'm listening, and I'm only 32. Definitely beats anything else on the dial right now. It's serving the area with a format that we definitely needed - a mix of standards, big band, and oldies (true oldies - not the Fleetwood Mac and Billy Joel stuff that many so-called "oldies" stations are playing now). Not only that, it seems they are going to have community-oriented programming as well, with some discussion shows joining the lineup. Ocean County has a large senior population, particular in the southern half and Manchester (wondering - how well does it reach that area?), and WBNJ will definitely go over well with them. In addition, there's a good amount of younger people who appreciate this type of music and programming, and I think they'll be tuning in as well. It should be interesting to see how well a station like this does when PPM goes into effect - by all accounts, it has a surpringly strong signal for a non-commercial station, and being more in touch with the community than the Press Communications and Greater Medias of the world should work in their favor. Overall, I think it's a very positive addition to a very dull FM dial, and it will pick up displaced WJRZ listeners and those turned off by the increasingly younger-skewing Breeze, as well as those who had given up on radio altogether.

You summed it up quite well, SoulCrusher ...

It's coming in pretty well down in the Egg Harbor Township/Absecon/Northfield areas too.

I was surprised to hear them play Nickelback, a little spice is nice. ;) ::)

Way to go SoulCrusher! Glad you're listening at age 32! I just found out about WBNJ while posting on this board. Unfortunately, it isn't coming in well in Berkeley and Manchester. There's a large population here that would appreciate the station. Hopefully that will change when the station gets to full power. :)

I'm listening online---for this 58 yr old from Midwood Brooklyn the playlist is a bit big band and 40's for me. Anyway,I wish the NY market would have such an over -the -air option!!!!!!

Nickelback??? I have listened the station and haven't heard this band. Doesn't seem like a band that would fit - is it possible you were picking up another station on that frequency? josh :)

Ita about time someone picked up the part time oldies format! Listening here in Whiting and am so happy that someone had the presence of mind to realize that ocean is comprised mainly of seniors and that they STILL listen to the radio. Maybe they will show the "other" stations (WJRZ) how oldies should be programed. Good Luck Billy Sr. and Jr. Thanks for the refreshing sound on the FM dial! Thanks for bringing back the songs we STILL love!

Hmmm, a station not going after a younger audience that doesn't care about radio anyway. Interesting point.

The CP expired on Sunday midnight. My Guess they Filed the STA and License app Late Friday or Saturday. was accepted on Tuesday because Monday being the Holiday The FCC was Closed
Technically They were not supposed to go on the air until the application is accepted for Filing
Legally If they went on the air monday they were in Violation.
Since they Filed the STA and it was accepted Tuesday. they can run Program Tests at Half power.
Someone said they will go Full power next week?

They cannot go full power until the FCC Grants them the License
usually takes several weeks. If they get Lucky maybe 2 weeks.

I wonder how their signal affect WBGD 91.9 in Brick?

anyone know who their CE is? or where the studios are located?
They are Running the Same Antenna that Im Using at WYGG in AsburyPark according to their application.
