WONQ Goes on the air.

Is October 26, 1985 the date the original WONQ on AM 1140 signed on the air, or is this the date WONQ signed on the air on its current AM 1030 frequency?

Interesting... since they were celebrating 10/26 as their 25th. Regardless,it's 25 years for the station from "Miami" as it was thought of by some when it went on the air.

Obviously, you care enough to make an asinine comment.

The 25th anniversary of a station that hasn't been bought out by one of the major radio conglomerates is worthy of mentioning.

The mere fact that the original personalities were on the air with the current air staff is remarkable by itself with the state of radio today. Most personalities today are shown the door by security when fired never to return back again.

I grew up in orlando, worked in radio in orlando for more than a decade and WONQ never made an impact in the market. ever.

Were you a member of the Hispanic community 25 years ago you would have valued the news you could not get anywhere else, the music for the growing Puerto Rican community and even the PSA's for your churches and community groups.

The station had impact on the market... just not the segment of the market you are in.

I'm not Hispanic, but it made an impact on me when I lived just north of Curry Ford & Dean Rd. I'd hear it all across my shortwave and HF ham bands! ;D

I used to listen back in the early mid 90's. I speak very little Spanish, but I loved the production of the station, and to this day, the Once-Q shotgun jingle is still stuck in my head!

So I'm not the only one. :)
