OCT PPMs...

OCT PPMs....

Sorry I didn't post earlier on this -- Crazy week with Sandy ... and 98.9 switching.. etc..

WODC has had it's first drop? I am kinda surprised ? Pretty decent sized drop... Wonder if this will accelerate their push for Christmas this year?

WXMG still is pulling big numbers for such a weak signal.. GOES to show that if you have a loyal following for a format that even a bad signal will yield you great results. [Heck it's beating CKX]

LVQ -- Seriously ? Have they ever seen numbers this low... I don't know what's wrong there... such a legendary station and a great signal....

CGX -- Clear Channel would be smart to grab Jack for this signal -- but we know they won't they dont have a "Premium Choice" Jack FM in their stable.

CD102.5 holding some impressive numbers. Seems like they are making best of that rim shot signal and their loyal following shows.. Kudos for a station that is locally owned/oped.

WMNI-FM -- SWITCH to Jack NOW..... Grab it before someone else does.. Seriously Hal... you will see at least a 1.0 next book if you switch NOW and it's as good as Radio One's Jack was..

Your thoughts? [I still wish Arbs would allow everyone to be seen.. would make these #s even more interesting to see].

On WMNI-FM... they did a "Jack" before on that signal... Remember Ted FM? :-\ (Trust me I try to forget.)

Signal's being upgraded, and (after they dropped soft AC from the mix) Ted-FM actually brought them some higher shares than any of the three formats they've tried since (News is just a few months old, but seriously...).

There's a lot of people who believe in retrying old ideas that failed the first time around instead of moving ahead with new ones, as recent political poll results show.

CC does own a PC Jack feed. Listen to Jack out of Baltimore, The Lake out of Cleveland or Charlotte, or the Harbor in Boston. I expect X to flip to a Jack station in the near future.

You mean WCGX, X106.7 FM

Those big numbers are very hard to believe for such a weak signal. They must have a very loyal following/audience. That is about the only logic I can find in those big numbers.

As expected WTVN is on the way up again. This may because of this election year and/or the Oho State University football season being well underway.

Sounds nice, but radio format selection and execution are hardly the same as, say, broad economic philosophy.  Also, needs, attitudes, expectations and competitive environment change over time.  What worked yesterday can fail today, and vice versa.  In the late 70's Qube was a Columbus attempt at interactive media using cable TV.  Dismal failure.  Today it has been reborn as a little thing called the internet.  Slightly more successful.

That would make sense, especially since WCGX is the second Alternative in town and Jack had its legs cut out from under it just as it appeared to be gaining some real momentum.

Funny, looking at monitors of the stations you mention I see minimal music overlap between them instead of the near-duplication I'm used to with PC. They look more musically conservative than Jack-FM was in its later months, though still with broader and longer lists than what CC does in most formats.

I think one thing that may have helped drive Jack's recent improvement is that it had started sounding more distinct from other local stations like Rewind (probably still its highest-duplication competitor, once Jack reduced the overly Classic Rock lean that dogged it for too long). Some of the stuff Jack played is rarely heard anywhere in town any more, and made for really tasty segues and texture. Even the stuff that is heard elsewhere was mixed deftly in a way that made it sound fresh. It was a really well-crafted mix of music from the 2000s (including occasional currents) back to the 70's and even occasional 60's. And when I say "well-crafted mix" I mean for broad appeal within their demo target. It was still mostly hits of course, but they weren't afraid to throw in occasional tunes that were only marginal hits or that don't even test well, but did it cautiously and with an eye toward the overall sound and flow. This is a tricky thing to do right, as we learned from the GenX format, which -- even though it was always hit-oriented -- really over-reached and tried for a 90's-centric broad song coalition that often came off as awkward and inconsistent.

Thanks, yeah, but did you enjoy my show tonight? That's where I'm really good ;) ... and the music is even better!

The Blitz has increased by three-tenths each of the last three months, from a 3.2 to a 4.1

Would be interesting to know how that breaks out for the new morning show vs rest of the the day.

They are upgrading it but you also got to remember this NABCO we are talking about they will ride that news mistake until it only have nubs. There last mistake, 99.7 The Rock, lasted two years but as you pointed out correctly their number weren't as bad as WMNI-FM. I think they are doubling down on News for now... maybe till march at the earliest they'll think of flipping. I don't when the upgrade will be completed so that why i said March because of three month trend and all but i'm get stuck in timing, number and trends. In short, I'm thinking they want to see how it will do on the upgraded stick before even thinking of switching anything... I don't think they will pull a "Mix" move from a few years back.

I think that mix move was more like Saga jumping the gun to pick up the listeners that WBNS's mix format abandoned for a fan simulcast than a frequency move.

Just hearing the two words "TED FM" make me shiver. I remember hearing "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler and wondering who in the Hell thought that was a good idea.

Me too, but after 3-4 months they wised up and completely banished that kind of incredibly-inappropriate stuff.
