So KTCK consistently has about the same number of 18-34's, while The Fan is shedding listeners at a furious pace...

Interesting, very interesting...

25t 25 19t KESN-FM
19t 12t 19t KZZA-FM
17t 16t 21 KSOC-FM
14 20t 22 KLUV-FM

15 18t 25 KFZO-FM
19t 23 26 KRLD-FM
27 27t 27 KTCK-AM

Can this be right? Did KRLD FM & AM get switched again or is The Fan beating The Ticket with ESPN beating both? I know it is 18-34 but still...

I'm just guessing that once women are filtered out, the results will look as expected. I'm sure more 19 year old women listen to Jagger than the musers.

I can't explain the KESN number. Maybe baseball? Dancing with the stars talk?

This is why some day there will be a KTCK-FM. AM is dead to people under 35. Long term for KTCK to continue to be a major player, it will have to do what many heritage AMs have done in most every other market: find a FM home. Otherwise, its large 35-54 audience will age out of the demo and there won't be younger folks to replace them.

Disagree. KGO in SF does not have an FM outlet, neither does WLS or WGN in Chicago. The problems with Dallas AM talk radio is that there is a severe shortage of local programming. What isn't sport related is laden with hate speech and vitriol (MTCW) Would it hurt this market to have an informative / yet enjoyable drive program. As much as I dislike Kevin Metheny, the PPMs for WGN are doing really well. That AM giant is making a huge turnaround.

I checked the PPM analysis last done on allaccess' site (for October). In San Francisco, KGO was 15th in 25-54; most of its audience is 55+. KCBS, thanks to FM simulcast KFRC-FM 106.9, continues a rise to #2 25-54, its best numbers thanks to adding the FM simulcast.

In Chicago, WGN is #1 overall in the 6+ numbers thanks to massive numbers among the elderly. In the 25-54 race, it was #16. In fact, Chicago, a supposedly great market for AM outlets, WBBM at #7 was the only AM in the top 10.

Again, the point is AM is dead to the vast majority of younger listeners (20s/30s) who don't consider it an option. KCBS, along with news, talk, or sports AM stations in markets large and small, have moved to (KTAR Phoenix, WTOP DC, KKFN Denver, KIRO Seattle, and so on) or added FM signals (KSL Salt Lake City, KOMO Seattle, WPEN Philly, KRMG Tulsa, and so on). Most have stated upfront it was to try to bring back younger audiences that don't listen to AM, and like KCBS, most see improvements in the 25-54 numbers.

Maybe not in the short term, but the longer term math will catch up to WBAP, KRLD, and KTCK: If the current audience is ages out of the 25-54 demo and there is no one on the younger in to replace them because they won't go the AM, the 25-54 numbers will decline.
