Wow. KHHT is... HOT! (most predictable line ever - sorry!) This station was rumored to be on the trash heap just a few years ago, particularly when Movin' was eating into their share, but when you go from the mid twos to high twos to mid threes, you are doing something right - although I don't know what it is. The station always sounds the same to me.
And KAMP and KLOS... NOT! (Ooops, did it again, as someone used to sing) I'm not in the KIIS/KAMP demo anymore and can measure the minutes I listen to these stations in any one month on my fingers, so I don't know what is going wrong there, but something must be. Seems like it wasn't even a year ago that KAMP was charging full steam ahead and some on this board were wondering if they could unseat KIIS. CC's response: "scoreboard, look at it".
As for KLOS, I AM in their target demo and know the station well and in my scientifically valid poll of users of the station in my household, which is to say, one, the Heidi and Frank experiment has so far been an absolute bomb. Somebody please go back to Mark and tell him he can broadcast from home, pay him double, whatever it takes. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Mark and Brian. Bring them back - the very existence of the station depends on it. Although my poll was quite small, Arbitron's is not and it looks like their users agree.
On the AM side, CBS Radio, err, the Trustee, sure knows how to kill a station. Of course I speak of KFWB. If there is a better way to kill listenership than to build a station around Michael Smirconish, Dave Ramsey, and the Clippers, I can't think of it. This was once a very proud station with heritage. KABC thinks this station is a disaster.
Back to the low end of the FM dial for a few quick wrap up thoughts. Has there ever been a bigger waste of a quality signal than KPFK? I think they would literally get more listeners playing polka music. Everyone knows that the sixties have been over for forty years now. Everyone except the hippies and occupiers at KPFK that is.
Lastly, regarding my favorite station, KCSN, there is a rumor that it is still on the air. In order for me to find out I would have to drive to the corner of Nordhoff and Lindley to know for sure. I can tell you I really enjoy the jazz that I can hear on KSBR in downtown LA. As David has pointed out many times on this board, stations that cannot be heard do not get ratings which is why are not even on the list. What is a AAA/Rock/Americana loving guy like me supposed to do?
