A couple thoughts here...

How does Sunny keep getting those younger demos? Well, good for them...

Where the heck did KVGS come from? #2 P18-34 English? Wow!

The highest ranked Spanish station is 7th P25-54. That's the 1st time that's happened in years. Could it be the new spanish station spreading the shares around?

I thought KOMP and Point would do better with Jack gone.

What's up with KVEG? They used to be such a powerhouse station and always top 3 P18-34. KLUC's numbers have been fairly good and all of the other CHR have been down; Party, KFRH and of course KVEG. Especially in the case of KFRH, why can't they get some numbers considering they don't play any commercials?

Thanks for listing the rankings as well as the interesting discussion topics.

KSNE doing well 18-34 jumps out at me as well. Who would have ever guessed they would be the top 18-34 station in the CC cluster? The obvious answer is that PPM captures passive listening. Many 18-34s walk into (or work at) offices and businesses that have SUNNY on. The diary wouldn't have captured this, PPM does. I do think some of these young adults actively enjoy the station as well. I sometimes see young employees sing along to songs on SUNNY, even the 70s/80s gold that was before their time. Sean Ross once said something like these listeners are too young to know these songs weren't cool when they were new...so funny and so true.

The KVGS 18-34 ranking is pretty amazing. Part of it could be that the CHRs are fragmenting the hell out of each other so that something different like 107.9 can jump over most of them. I also think Alternative music sounds the best it has in years. I first became a fan in the early 80s when I was glued to KROQ on trips to LA. Then I loved the format during the early 90s grunge boom. Then I totally lost interest from the mid 90s through a couple of years ago when alternative seemed to merge with active rock. It sounded stale. Now there are so many great news songs and bands, ALT is a distinct form of music again. Because I haven't listened to the format in so long the 90s gold sounds fresh to me. 18-34s (especially the younger end) might like the 90s not for the memories but because they haven't been overexposed to it. Interesting that KXTEs music moved very much towards KVGS yet KVGS moved up and KXTE didn't benefit.

As for Spanish..the stations are probably eating into each other 25-54. Although it's interesting that there is no problem at all 18-34..look how huge Spanish radio is in that demo. I realize that KWID updated their music but it is still a gold based format, you would expect it to rank higher 25-54 yet it ranks #1 18-34! Just goes to show how young the Hispanic population is.

As for KOMP and KXPT. I would guess they both do very well men 25-54,better than persons 25-54. Still if they didn't get a boost from JACK going away where did the KKJJ listeners go? Maybe the station wasn't rated high enough to have a major impact on anyone else when they went away?

I expected KVEG to drop off big when PPM first started here. Many Urban/hip Hop stations have. I was very surprised when they didn't...they actually thrived in the early PPM months. So now their ratings look exactly what I expected them to be in the first place. They have since moved their music more CHR. The problem with this is the market is oersaturated with CHR...they are now playing music that can be heard on several different stations and the slices of pie (outside of KLUC) are getting cut very thin. Plus KVEG once had a great 25-54 audience, I believe much of their upper end has since switched to KOAS.

As for NOW-FM. We always hear that all-music and limited talk, commercials, and clutter is the key to success in PPM. I believe this is true. But KFRH might actually push the concept too far. They have no soul, no sense of stationality whatsoever. Just a music machine. Plus their singal seems limited compared to their competitors.

Hispanic National Buys are based on the 18-49 demo, and the Hispanic market is significantly younger than the overall general market.

We (KWID) did OK in 25-54, but it is a little funky. If you looked at 18-49, we are doing very well. The music is really on target and Benjamin and the gang at La Buena are doing a great job.
