OCTOBER NUMBERS

DVE #1 but down, even with the Steelers...

Only 1.3 points separate the top 7 stations.... Only .6 between DVE, Y108, 3WS, BOB, and Kiss.... and although they aren't listed, we should probably assume WSHH is right in there as well...

104.7 had a huge month with the election looming, KD also benefits....

The Fan takes a big dive with the end of baseball, and little to talk about regarding Pitt...

No Hockey means no numbers at the X....

Will we see some format shakeups around or after the holidays ?

Haven't seen the numbers, but it's surprising that The Fan is down again. Steelers talk usually gives them a strong last quarter.

With baseball you have 6 games per week to discuss. With football, only 1 and then there's the bye week. So it gets rather stale by the end of the week.

Overall up 66.7 percent from two months ago.

I know, I know. Two thirds of nothing is still nothing.

But the point here is not that WBGG is now in a position to overtake The Fan, but rather if they are able to benefit by their own standards dramatically from the arrival of football season, and The Fan isn't, it speaks of interesting discussion as to what what will happen in the future.

If taking baseball away results in that big a drop, it could show that the Fan's talk show audience has been steadily eroding. It might also just mean that, with the election around the corner, the Fan's upper demos are spending more time with political shows (hence the huge month at 104.7). We'll have to see what happens after the election.

It's interesting for sure.

One other thing- could country be getting cool again?

I mean, Taylor Swift seems to be on every magazine cover. The most promoted new show on TV this season was "Nashville."

Could this be a factor why WDSY is improving?

I think you are right about country.... the other market I follow closely, Tampa- St.Pete, has country outlets from both CBS and CC and both were up this book (granted, US103.5 also has the Buccaneers, but WQYK is beating them with just music).

Also the addition of Jimmy Roach at Y108 probably has something to do with their upswing. Keymarket has gone back to running the Frogs as local stations more or less, instead of being a "Pittsburgh" station on multiple signals.

WDSY has had good morning shows in the past (I enjoyed Welch and Woody, for instance), but I think getting Jimmy Roach was a coup for them.
