Yep, it's all so simple to you. Just move around formats as if they were slots on a roulette wheel.

I'd like to know where you think you're going to find air personalities who can do the Drake format competently and don't cost the arm, leg and several other body parts that WRKO doesn't have to pay them?

All those guys are long retired anyway, (or deceased) and most of 'em wouldn't dream of coming out of retirement! Aren't many at all still working who could pull off Drake decently!

It WOULD be nice to hear the old Big 68, if only for a weekend--major project to pull it off right, though. We can dream, can't we?

Based on show content, topics, and host, I don't see how Howie is going to pull young numbers regardless of where he is. If being on FM automatically delivered younger demos, they'd still be talkin' on 96.9.

RKO could deliver oldies on the cheap via comp., True Oldies, etc and they don't need to drag the old DJs back. I do remember 10-15 yrs ago, maybe more, they did Big 68 revival weekends on Mem. Day, July 4, etc and WABC has been doing oldies on Sat Night. Get Geritol to sponsor it.Btw, youtube has a clip of the Lawrence Welk Show tackling One Toke Over the Line when that song came out, no idea what song was about.Maybe a gospel tune, "Sweet Jesus"..

As for the question on the blog about WUMB, they show up on this chart with 0.5 for October.

I don't know why they have the owner of WGBH listed as Great Scott Broadcasting, a local commercial radio cluster in Delaware. WCRB is correctly listed as owned by the WGBH Educatiional Foundation, so the WGBH ownership listing is obviously a mistake.

Eli the link in the first post claims those are 25-54 numbers, is it possible the numbers you mention are the 6 plus numbers that are generally available to the public?

I thought publishing anything but the 6+ numbers was a no no

And you are correct about WCRB but it is not the first time the format or owner info has been wrong, sometimes for multiple books

Nielsen acquired Arbitron a few months back. There are no Arbitron ratings anymore -- just Nielsens, for TV and radio.
 
BQT really is doing well. That's not bad for a station that's only been on since January. Cadillac Jack is apparently doing something right!

In that case, we have two conflicting October ratings charts referred to on this thread, with differing ratings, both claiming to be sourced by Arbitron (Nielsen).

I know it veers off topic, but I had to respond:

The "Big 68 Revival Weekend"s sounded not even remotely close to the original WRKO. They used an obscene amount of reverb. Bob Henaberry didn't use nearly that amount in the pre-Drake days. One of the first things the Drake team did was eliminate the reverb and set the compression to "Kill" mode. The top hour ID was segued with the 20/20 news sounder---you never heard that on WRKO. The news in those days was at :20 and :40 in drive times, and :40 outside. They could have moved their Metro/Shadow feed to those times, they had plenty of tape to do so if live wasn't possible. They only used about 4 jingles out of the DOZENS available in the Drake 1A and 1B packages. They have the reels, ask 'em! And, the talk hosts rambled about the song's chart histories, again, NEVER done on WRKO.---They repeated the same segments over, and over, and over...and OVER.

Whoever put those weekends together did ZERO homework on the original sound of WRKO. Half-assed job rushed and put together.

You could never duplicate the exact original sound today, but for God's sake, make some kind of ATTEMPT to do it right.

Same deal with WABC. My kingdom to hear 2 songs in a row. And can Mark Simone ever....shut....up?

Funny how you mention Simone talking and talking...because that's his job now. He's on WOR 10a-12p weekdays. Come January he will be Rush's lead-in on the new flagship.
 
Mark Simone is a very capable and talented talk host. I just found too much babbling when he should have been playing music. Call me silly, but isn't the music the reason WHY you would listen to an oldies show on WABC? No, of course not--I'm being foolish! One song, followed by chart babble (It entered the charts at number 17, and for five weeks it was at #5 blah blah blah) Then, "The music sounds best on WABC....Hey, do you remember Pet Rocks?" followed by 3 phone calls about Pet Rocks.

Personality oldies show, yes! But we must have a balance here. SHUT UP AND PLAY THE MUSIC! There are those who love the sound of their own voice, but not everyone shares the same sentiment.

And no one is impressed by the chart babble. You either like the song, or you don't.

Again, Simone is a great talk host. I've heard him many times. Music radio just "ain't his bag."
