As of this writing, the October trend for Jax will be out tomorrow. One of the most interesting numbers will come from WFYV. Lex & Terry's last day was September 30th so October should start to reflect a downturn in the station's morning drive performance. Anybody want to make a prediction?
While we're on the subject, there's a lot of speculation about where they will end up when they hit the air on a Jax CC station. But think about this. CC's market manager has stated that an announcement will probably be made around mid December regarding which station, etc. Interesting. The reason being that in order for Premiere Radio to move Rush Limbaugh or Shaun Hannity from WOKV to any other station in the market, they have to give WOKV at least 30 days notice. That would almost coincide with CC's timetable with L&T.
CC has made similar moves in some other markets recently by grabbing the top talkers from competitive AM's. Evidentally, they have a renewed belief that there really is a future in FM talk.
One other thing. Unless I'm misinformed, Mike Dorwart's employment contract with Cox expires at the end of December (like most other Cox/Jax employees). If he signs on for another year, that nasty 6 month non-compete kicks in again. That would put him in a bad situation because CC would be taking away his best programming and he would be left with only Neil Bortz. Clearly, this would knock WOKV out of the top dog spot and put them way down with the other also-rans.
So, if CC takes Rush and Shaun, MD would probably be smart to take some decision-makers at CC to lunch!
Now, wouldn't it be interesting if that scenario played out?
