Odd AM Actions

KSFE in Milan (out near Grants) has a CP to move from 1090 to 1080 and move to Moriarty. And if you look at the site for the transmitter, it is way out halfway to Clines Corners. So it looks like there will be keeping a lot of Cholla warm. No idea at all why they have made the move.

There is also an App for 50 kW in Peralta (south of ABQ) on 1120. If the eventual plan is to get a translator, that is an awful lot of power (still warmnig the Cholla). Can't think of any other reason to make the App (see the thread "Signs of the AM apocalypse").

Well KSFE was recently granted an FM translator to broadcast in Milan at 98.3 as K252FS. So if they go through with this move they may also have to move the translator although 98.3 may not be a usable frequency in the area with KABG and KBAC having some coverage there. I don't know if there would be much value in a station unique to Moriarty-Edgewood since nearly everything from Albuquerque and Santa Fe reaches there but maybe there is. KXNM 88.7 is the only station unique to the area but it is a non-com.

The application for 1120 Peralta was originally filed in 2004 and another one was filed in 2010 but there has been no action taken on either, so it probably will never be built. Googling the name on the application it looks like this guy is “director of local media operations and engineering” with Univision in San Antonio. So maybe it was intended to be part of the Univision cluster here but then it doesn't make much sense to build a new AM in 2004 anyway. And now Univision is no longer in the market. Perhaps they thought of challenging 770 or something but it would have been at 50kW only during the day.

I wonder if KXKS 1190 was for sale or lease? The owners bought KKIM 1000 from AGM a few years ago and briefly leased it to a sports talk outlet. But now the same programming runs on both stations. The question is would anyone want to buy it?
