ODDS & ENDS SEPTEMBER 5

Merritt, BC has a new radio station (an FM flip with a twist). CJNL 1230 which was 50% local and a 50% simulcast of News-Talk CHNL 610 Kamloops flipped to 101.1 FM this past Monday becomming CKMQ (Q101) with AC days and Country nights (all local). However CJNL will not go dark after the standard 90 day simulcast is over, they will instead become a 100% rebroadcaster for CHNL.

CFVR (Mix 103.7) in Fort McMurray,AB has applied to increase power from 8,700 watts (20,000 watts Max. ERP) to 22,000 watts (50,000 watts Max. ERP) citing reception problems in rural areas around Fort McMurray (officially known as the municipality of Wood Buffalo).

CKXM 90.5 (MY FM) in Exeter,ON was launched this past Monday with an AC format. With only 2,950 watts it is not expected the station will have much of an impact in nearby markets such as London and Stratford.

The CRTC has approved the sale of CKPC (1380 AM) and CKPC (FM 92.1) in Brantford,ON from Telephone City Broadcasters to the Evanov Radio Group. A major revamping of both facilities is expected.

The CRTC has denied the proposal by CKJN 92.9 (Moose FM) in Caledonia,ON (Haldimand County) to reduce Canadian content from 60% to 35% Monday to Friday between the hours of 6AM & 6PM.

CHOW 105.3 (Radio Boreale) in Amos,QC has applied for a power increase from 5,376 watts (9,500 watts Max. ERP) to 17,787 watts (32,186 watts Max. ERP) as well as a reduction in antenna height and a relocation of their transmitter site.

A new 165 watt French Community station on 96.9 has been approved for Levis,QC which will be known as CJMD (Radio Communautaire de Levis) as well as a low powered developmental community station for Truro,NS (frequency yet to be determined) (Truro Live Performing Arts Association).

Also in Truro CINU 98.5 (Hope FM) will be relocating to 106.3. Interference issues with CKRH 98.5 in Halifax were cited as the reason.

It has come to my attention that many on-line radio directories are incorrectly listing the call letters for the yet to be launched John Yerxa CHR facility in Edmonton at 107.1 as CJAO. These are the calls that an unsuccessful bidder from that same hearing had proposed. The correct calls will be CJNW. "New FM 107" is expected to hit the air this Fall.
