Odds & Ends...

A few, unrelated issues:

It appears that WKVF/94.9 has upgraded, though I do not see an application for License to Cover filed yet. Signal seems pretty good -- 25 kW at the WKNO farm -- and RDS is now on. But, the odd thing... when I noticed the RDS yesterday, it was WKIM's RDS. Yes, 94.9's RDS scrolls the wrong callsign and non-CCM songs. Interesting.

107.5/96.1's "Maney & Riley" is now "Maney & Drex." I assume this implies some sort of change?

KWYN/92.5 has a CP to move a bit closer to Memphis. The new signal will not be competitive, of course, but will place a 60 dBu as far east as Midtown.

my scan stopped on 94.9 yesterday and I wondered if they had lit up the new CP. It usually stops on 94.7 first when I'm in Midtown. Recnet is showing only showing 7kw for the application. But its a C3 and adds a great bit of height and city grades almost the entire county. I see 94.7s calls are now KLJK and I guess it has moved to Wiener to make room.

92.5 - I am guessing Bobby wants better coverage in West Memphis & Marion. They have a few ads from over there and run Marion Football. We visited several years ago and chatted about the potential of moving. I think this was even before the application was filed.

Does 92.5 also have Razorback football and basketball? No station in the Memphis market has that. It's still hard for me to believe that AM 730 now has Mississippi State sports and not Arkansas. AM 730 had the Hogs for decades.

Since the spring of 2008 there have been several tweaks to that time slot.

Kennedy & Maney then...
Maney & Riley (Riley moved up from middays) then...
Maney & Riley featuring Alexis Grace (hometown American Idol finalist) a few days a week, now...
Maney & Drex (Drex in from Afternoons, Riley out to afternoons) and I think Alexis Grace is staying in the same roll...

Of course, this is all conjecture on my part from reading All Access, this board and Facebook.

WKVF/94.9 filed their application for License to Cover this morning.

I wonder what will happen to the translator on 97.7. It does seem rather needless now.

KWYN AM/FM is listed for Football. Not sure what airs on the AM side but the stations usually only simulcast during severe weather.

KBFC & KEGI also carry the Razorbacks but you can't hear either station in town.

I would think that there would be some sales opportunity for KQPN if they carries razorback sports.

94.9 now sports a nice signal in the car and 94.7 is not on the air from Turrell this afternoon.

Legal ID at 1pm said KKLV Bartlett-Memphis only.

The Memphis Maroon Club must have gotten up the money for Mississippi State to be on KQPN. When I was at the then-AM 730 KSUD from 1997-2000 (then a Hogs affiliate), Frank Hammond sold a lot of advertising for the Razorbacks games. He also got revenue for the station from the pastors that would pay for their time. I'm surprised that the Memphis-East Arkansas club hasn't financed the broadcasting of the Hogs games in the Memphis radio market.

The 730 website seems to have been mostly abandoned

The front page was last updated back in Feb except for some RSS feeds on the right side
The Podcasts are all from 2010.
Someone posted asking about the podcasts back in November and no one has bothered to reply.
I guess the new owner is letting 730 die a slow painful death before selling time for colon blow and preachers or everyone involved is disinterested.

Is Chris Vernon the only thing local over there?

I'm expecting 730 to go dollar a holler at any time. In flipping through the dial while I was close to Memphis I noticed that they were doing something in Spainsh. Are they going to dólar por gritar? (I had to Google that one.  :D)

Since they've been selling off some of their translators with the changes in their stations in Memphis and West TN, so I won't be surprised if it gets sold as well. But I wish that EMF could change some of their translators in Memphis and also the Jackson area to Air 1.

Since there is no Air one station close enough for reliable reception they could run Air1 on an HD2 at 94.9 and then put it on a translator. .

I'm not seeing RDS on 94.9. They must have disabled it for now.

That's okay. It'll give the F.W. Robbert stations some competition (other than from each other). And 'NQM here in Nashvegas has had programming en espanol, during the evening hours anyway, since at least 1995, if not longer than that.

I actually meant to say that it was 1380 that had the Spanish programming. I heard it again yesterday and they were playing Mexican music. Better that than the usual lineup of crackpots and conspiracy freaks.  ::)

I thought about that as well, Michael, but I don't know that EMF is into providing HD side channels for their main frequencies.

Any monetary expenditure by EMF only makes sense if that translator is upgradeable. Even at 300', 30W just ain't enough.

And, there is another footnote: if they were interested in playing that game, they likely would not have parted with the now-upgraded 96.7 translator.

But, what do I know?

DE

96.7 & 97.7 combined would give them Bartlett and Cordova coverage for Air 1.

I don't blame them for focusing on getting 1 maximized signal in the city. I think they did good with getting into town. I wonder if Albert Crain ever thought his station would be able to move into the city.
