Ode To WPEN, Et Al

In the starless night,
where there is no light,
and it's darker than a hole...
lies a blacker place,
that has no grace:
the Greater Media soul.

They hire good men,
and good women, then
they promise them the sky...
knowing from the start
that they have no heart
and everything's a lie.

"We'll keep you well",
them they did tell,
"We'll make you stars that glisten..."
But, there's no surprise,
those were all lies:
we warned you not to listen.

But, the most bereft,
are those who're left,
in the Greater Media pod...
While Bob Deblois
and the rest of the boys
continue to play God.

They tell you lies,
in friendly disguise,
and say they're on the level...
Just open your mind,
and you will find
that you're working for the Devil.

We wish you the best,
and all the rest,
we hope you all do well...
But, now you know,
what its like to go
and spend some time in Hell.

Beautiful...*grabs tissues*

It looks like the only thing WPEN accomplished with the power and direction changes is now Trenton can hear them and Wilmington cannot. Speaking with friends, before, both cities could of heard them at night but with some difficulty, now Trenton can hear them but Wilmington is without any signal.

Bob, tonight I had to switch from YSP to MMR, god forbid, but I did, I just cannot take sports, especially football. I have to say Razz sounded good, he was in for Cord and the music was a bit better, but they still play loads of Classic Rock which YSP has gotton away from. If anyone should play more Classic Rock, it should be YSP, (but I am glad they don't), last time I heard, wasn't MGK, who is also owned by GM Classic Rock, make any sense :). Now they are saying over and over we are, "Philadelphia's First Rock Station", I always thought WIFI was ahead of them.

Perhaps they should have sold some of that weekend time to themselves.

Especially et al

Your clever verse might cause some on this board to think what you wrote applies only to Greater Media.

It does not.

The broadcasting industry treats people like Kleenex.

Each year, various business publications compile lists of the "Best Companies to Work For." Guess what! No broadcasters on the list (I have seen one media company, The New York Times, listed.) Every station owner or content provider listed right now on page one of the Philadelphia board has had more than its share of online complaints of ill-treatment of employees (often going along with bungling by management).

Why does it happen?

One, radio emplyment is a buyers' market. There is a surplus of people who want to work in radio and will put up with most anything to work in radio. After a few years, they may no longer be willing to put up with bad treatment (and lousy pay) any more, but there is a new crop of eager radio geeks ready to take their places.

Two is bad management. Broadcasting corporations may have trained and competent managers. But at the station level, what you have a mostly former jocks and sales people who have risen to become the NCO's of the broadcasting industry. They took their share of sh* starting out, not they seem to think it is their due to give sh* back to those under them. The cycle continues.

Number three is radio people put up with it (and help perpetuate it). Too many radio people act as if they believe that if they are not being scr*ed at the moment, no scr*ing is taking place. Radio is the most contentious, back-biting, dog-eat-dog work environment I have ever encountered. Your lines about management's insincerity also apply to workers' insincerity to each other.

This is all part of the backstage culture of radio, despite the way we try to present ourselves to the audience as one-big-happy-family. The way management chronically treats employees is no worse than the way employees treat each other.

I know some of you aren't going to like this, but if those does not fit, don't wear it.
