Of these three radios, which has the best DXing capabilities?

CC Radio 2e
Sangean PR-D15
Sangean PR-D5
Also, of these three, which of them has the best ability to pick up distant signals during non-DX seasons (e.g. Winter)?

The PR-D5 and the CC Radio are both excellent for receiving MW-DX signals. I don't have the PR-D15, but I'm told it's not as good as the others for MWDX.

I've got both the CC-2E and the Sangean PR-D15. The Sangean is definitely better on FM and has RDS. From the top of the band to the bottom, it does better on weaker local stations and fringe stations than the CC-2E. Also, if you have powerful FM locals nearby, the CC-2E will occasionally get images of them on different frequencies. I've read that the PR-D5 is as sensitive on FM as the PR-D15 but not as selective.

For AM DX, the CC-2E is better. The PR-D15 is just about as sensitive, but the volume on weak stations is noticeably lower, likely due to soft muting.

What is the most powerful radio for FM reception and DXing

I know that I posted something similar 2 days ago, but I'm wondering what the most powerful radio is for FM reception (as in getting distant stations regularly) and for DXing.

Two radios that outperformed the CC-2E & PR-D5 on FM (for me) are the CCrane SW, and the Tecsun Pl-390. The CCrane SW is a little 'soft' on the selectivity, but has a real low noise floor.
The Tecsun is very selective, and if you use the whip extension, is a true DX radio. My copy of the CC-2E was a B+ performer on AM & FM. It was returned.

Did it outperform the PR-D15?

I just did a side-by-side test with the PR-D15 and the Tecsun PL-390. The PR-D15 outperformed the PL-390; it was pulling in semi-locals noticeably better.

Anyone ever compared a Sangean 909X on FM with the PR-D15 or other good FM performers? I've read in other forums that it's supposed to be the best portable for FM DXing.

What about distant or fringe stations?

Speak of the devil! I've been wondering the same thing.

The 909X has a SiLabs DSP chip acting as RF/IF amp in the FM chain (no analog front end chip, as was usual in most Sangean radios until the SiLabs chips began to be adopted in many of their models). The DSP chip may be one of the reasons it has a reportedly good rep on FM.

I own the 2E so can add my 2 cents there...

For MW-DX it is an outstanding option in my opinion. Does a very good job with FM as well but I don't have anything to benchmark the FM side with.

Ever make a decision? I've been wanting a radio to specifically for DXing. More for FM but wouldn't mind AM as well. Can't find enough reviews for the PR-D15 to make a decision.

I've never used a PR-D15 myself, but you might want to PM Hawaiigar. Or look up his posts. He's snagged all sorts of DX from the mainland at his location on the big island of Hawaii, so he's probably the main source of information from a regular user of that radio on this board. But there may be 2-3 other guys here who might be able to help you. I could be mistaken, but I think crainbebo may be one of those familiar with the PR-D15. All I can vouch for personally is that Sangean does have a pretty good track record. I've owned a few of their radios, and they've all been pretty good.

If it's a portable you want and FM DXing is your main goal, go with the PR-D15. It has excellent FM reception, and it's close to the top for AM. I've been very happy with mine, and it's still going strong after more than two years. I just need to do some antenna screw tightening since I've given that antenna quite a workout. Hawaiigar and others have had PR-D5s last a long time, and I'll bet my PR-D15 follows suit.

The CC-2E is a little better for AM DXing and has the 2M Ham and Weather bands, but it's not as good on FM and costs $100 more.

Hawaiigar, if memory serves, uses a PR-D5, not a PR-D15. But they're basically the same radio anymore, with the PR-D15 apparently having an edge in FM reception, and nearly as good / just as good (depending on report) on AMDX.

I have a PR-D5, and it's an excellent radio for AM band DX. In my view, it's probably the best currently made MWDX portable radio available.

I don't DX FM, so I don't know how well it compares to the radios FM DXers use.
