Off Air HDTV Reception in Union County, NJ

I hooked up an HDTV ATSC Over The Air tuner to my usual rooftop TV antenna on July 1, 2007 in Kenilworth, NJ and was surprised not only at the quality but the number of channels received here.
Channels & stations received:
2.1 WCBS-HD;
4.1 WNBC-DT; 4.2 WX Plus; 4.4 WNBC 4.4;
5.1 WNYW-DT; 5.2 WWOR-DT;
7.1 WABC-HD; 7.2 WABC Plus; 7.3 WABC now;
9.1 WWOR-DT; 9.2 WNYW-DT;
11.1 TheCW11;
13.1 WNET-HD; 13.2 WNET-SD; 13.3 WNET-13;
31.1 ION; 31.2 qubo; 31.3 IONlife; 31.4 worship;
41.1 WXTV-DT;
63.1 WMBC-D1; 63.2 WMBC D-2; 63.3 WMBC D-3; 63.4 WMBC-D4;
68.1 WFUT-DT;
Using a loaner Sony HD1 receiver.
Most of these are coming from the Empire State Bldg but WMBC comes from the other direction from Sparta Mountain and I'm getting it crystal clear even though my antenna is pointing the other way.

That's it, just the New York stations. I'm surprized you are not also getting a few TV stations from Philadelphia in Union County. I'm up in Morris County and get KYW CBS 3, WPVI ABC 6, and WCAU NBC 10, from my rooftop HDTV antenna along with all the NYC stations of course. You are further south than I am so surprized you only get the NY. Have you tried WLIW from Long Island or NJN different outlets? I also get the NYC stations clear (on a scale on 1-10, i give them an 7 or 8) and Philly comes in fair most times (a middle 5) and poor other times (a 1-2) depending on the weather and the time of day.

Didn't Ch. 11 have some music video station known as the Tube on its HD subchannel? I also don't get the WWOR simulcast on Fox's HD subchannel (and vice versa)...yes I know they are co-owned but it seems redundant to me. It would be nice to see stations take advantage of their subchannels to actually offer more than just the same stuff in different packaging.

FWIW WMBC's DTV transmitter is on the NJN channel 50 tower. (it's NOT at the same site as analog channel 63)

(I'm a bit surprised you aren't getting NJN's DTV from that site, but WMBC is five times the power)

I'm using a Sony receiver made for Direct TV which can receive analog, satellite and OTA digital. I use a Zenith Silver Sensor indoor antenna on top of my armoir. Usually I get good singals (95 to 97) on all but 13.1 which is weaker. 47.1 (36) is so weak it doesn't even register..same thing for 25.1
63.1 is better at night. By day, it's off and on but that's because it's on the wrong side of my antenna.
Yes, the xmtr is at the WNJM site in Montclair..I have a note from channel 63 confirming that.
If you can lock onto a signal, the video is beautiful. Better than satellite, better than cable or FIOS. Just make sure to use a good video connection, not an rf connection (like channel 3).
At night, channel 11 goes down to low power around midnight and then signal lock becomes a problem for me.
