Off Air Indication for HD Stations

I am curious what other are doing to alert air staff that they are off the air once they can no longer listen to the air feed.

Thanks for the response.

That was the only idea that I came up with so far. We currently have the silence sensors located at the transmitter sites and they call me. But I was thinking about moving them to the studio and adding lights.

That's exactly what we did. BUT, if your studios are staffed 24/7, most of those systems can call more than one number and you could have them dial a hotline and your phone. OR, you call studio staff when the sensor hits your phone?

One set up I've seen is a Radio Design Labs VU meter located next to the console, racked above the CD players. It is visible to the jock while he or she is on the air. The VU meter is driven by the analog audio output of the HD receiver. If the LEDs stop bouncing, the jock knows that the station is probably off. Seems to work quite well....

Here's what is used:

Good luck.....
