Off Color Remark on 100.3 The Beat

Thursday Morning I was sitting at the Philly Airport waiting for my connecting flight, I was listening to my walkman and came across 100.3 The Beat. They were talking to someone on the phone from London (I believe it was an artist or something like that). Then the male DJ said something along the lines of "It's a good thing if the 4 baby mama's you pay child support to died in the bombing." I was shocked, especially because I was on my way to the Writing.Com Convention in the Lehigh Valley, where 3 attendees were coming in from London. Apparently the female DJ who was on with him was shocked too because she said "You're going to hell now after that remark".

Did anyone else hear this comment? What does everyone else think about what he said? Does anyone even care?
______________

I think it's very inappropriate but one must consider the source.

Re: "Off Color" Remark on 100.3 The Beat

A techncal point that this would not be considered "off color" which would suggest use of an obscene or sexual remark per FCC guidelines. This could be considered in poor taste depending if you heard it correctly. In such cases stations have been known to fine or suspend air talent (such as Greaseman a few years back), but it's not "obscene" by FCC definition.

Wait, Pooch is white? I thought he was mixed? He's a good dude, but I am sure that Monie and Pooch are feeling the heat. Star and Buc seem to be unstoppable...hell, Power 99 is unstoppable...16 books in a row at the number 1 spot. I guess that's why Pooch would say something like that - shock value.

Actually, WMMR did so well 18-34 in the latest book that now I understand better as to why Radio None decided to make such a huge stink with P&S...they thought addition by subtraction would move The Beaten up in rank.

I heard that The Beaten are now having pre-work prayer meetings in the GM's office...no joke...and there are people there that are all kind's of bent out of shape over that one...good look for you Chester!

(Insert organ music here) "...oh Lord, please, please, please, let those demonic Preston and Steve people come down with some sort of debilitating virus that doesn't allow them to make the fart jokes that the 18-34 white kid loves...oh, and please Lord, make sure my new Mercedes does not get a ding in it in the parking lot...oh, and a little bump in the ratings for The Beat would be nice...amen.".

I have no problem with people practicing religion. I think spirituality is good. I have a problem with people practicing religion in the work place where some of the employees feel alienated. There is a time and a place for everything.

Amen.

Although that's an extremely inappropriate remark that Pooch made (remember, Monie Love is from the UK), as alarming as this may sound I still believe that it's not as bad as the 'n' word that is used in all of the Star'n'Bucwild shows. God Forbid Pooch gets fined and/or suspended...then all hell breaks loose.

We must make a point that the hypocrites at CC are allowing the 'n' word on Star'n'Bucwild...but NOT on Howard Stern when the 'n' word used was clearly an accident (causing him to be booted in 6 cities on 'their-so-called-airwaves')!!

If no one was listening to the Beat before why would they listen to it with a bigger signal? Content is content...same dude calling the shots all along, and since Jonsey there has not been a compelling minute on the Beat.

They had numbers for a little bit when Jonsey was there, and that was on a lesser signal. So signal is not the probem. It's all about content.

Oh, and while we are on the subject, I read on urbaninsite.com that the overnight girl that pulls triple duty with producing the am show AND reading the news dropped the f-bomb twice either this morning or yesterday...she didn't realize her mic was open and was reacting to messing up her read...classy.
Edited by Wexler on 07/27/05 07:10 PM.

Re: "Off Color" Remark on 100.3 The Beat

Even if I lived in Philly I wouldn't listen to WMMR if you paid me. You know why? I don't like rock. I like hip-hop music. That's why when I was at the airport I was listenting to 100.3 The Beat. Actually I thought Rocko The Janitor on 96.5 was better.

No accounting for some people's tastes, 'eh?

Re: "Off Color" Remark on 100.3 The Beat

The Beat can do whatever the like cause no one is listening you can't beat Star and Buc in the morning for Urban stations. I honestly think people listen cause they like being pissed off by Star.

That's funny. "Rocco" actually used to be at Y-100 and WMMR.
