off topic - broadcast network TV waiver

Not radio related but was curious......

I have Dish Network and their local channels include Rapid City. Since the local channel satellite is in a different location the terrain and trees around my house prevent me from receiving that feed. An antenna allows me to get KOTA-TV but the other channels were pretty weak. I applied for a broadcast network waiver so I might get national network feeds. The request was denied because I lived within local coverage area of the local stations. True, on paper I live within range but in reality I'm on the western side of a hill about 100 feet below the peak.

I was at the FCC localism hearings held in Rapid City a few years ago and during the open mike session one of the comments from an audience member was that Duhamel Broadcasting routinely denies these requests if the person lives within the local coverage area. In seven years I might have watched a total of 10 hours of local TV. I don't think I have missed much and I can definitely say that a digital converter is not on my list of stuff to buy.

Has anyone here ever gotten a waiver?
