off topic, but...

...has anyone seen the FOX61 promo where they brag about 'being local, and staying local' but the voice over is done in a British accent? talk about local, huh? too funny.

to be fair, they just recently swapped the VO out with a 'local' sounding male, but still, come on...

Please keep Bob Tracey doing their promos. He's the voice who for years said "The FOX 61 News At Ten begins...RIGHT NOW!" or "NOW...FOX 61 Sports with Rich Cappola!". Peter Drew is the voice you'd hear saying "The Play 3 and Play 4 drawings are next on FOX 61!". He's also done many ads on WTIC-AM 1080.

And why does the logo suddenly spin around to say "Fox Connecticut"? Will they be dropping the "61" part after June 12th?

Lastly, shouldn't this be on the New England TV board?

The Fox 61 morning show starts at 4:30 because they are trying to beat Channels 3, 8 and 30 to the punch.
Do they really have to start a morning show that early????????? And how many times is Logan Byrnes going to bounce from one CT station to another. Channel 30 to Cali back to 30 and now on 61. Can't hurt that your father is Ed "Kookie" Byrnes. ;D

Can someone please lend Logan a comb? ;D

FOX 61 pulled a beauty last night. The UConn woman were celebrating their undefeated NCAA championship at Gampel Pavillion. All local stations covered some of it until they had to cut away for network news. That is understandable. However, FOX 61 started coverage at 6p. They started the introductions at 6:10. Only a couple of players spoke and then right after Tina Charles gave her little talk at 6:15 , the anchors at FOX 61 break in to join "Family Guy" in progress.
Are they for real? or just high? Cutting away from a big sports celebration that only happens once in while, to rejoin a re-run of an animated show???????????? That's animation domination at it's worst!
Bad decision by FOX 61. Like people are going to wait until their 10p newscast to watch the highlights.
Really strange!

I'd much rather watch Family Guy reruns!! Not everyone in this state is obsessed with women's b-ball, and we don't need it force-fed down our throats.

Programming wise it was stupid. To air an animated re-run (which has been re-run several times) over a live broadcast of
a local sporting event is ridiculous. But again that's Hooterville TV for ya. CT tv stations are small step above local access cable tv. And that isn't saying much.

I hate to play the devil's advocate here but the UCONN women were being covered by every tv outlet in CT and some beyond, so I applaud Fox 61 for not saying "Me too!!!!". If it were really that important to you, you could have watched it on all the other stations. Besides, since when did college present a degree in basketball? Is that all UCONN is now? A place to grow basketball players? Viva la Family Guy!

Fox 61 is not normally in a news intensive mode at 6pm, but at least they covered the UConn team arriving home. It may not have been to the extent of 3, 8 or 30, but that's not what they do at that hour. I'm also hooked on the guilty pleasure of Family Guy, so don't mess with the Griffin family too much.

I don't know how anyone can say CT TV is small time these days. Unlike radio, Hartford/New Haven are combined as one TV market, making it bigger than Providence/New Bedford and one of the top 30 markets in the country. The anchors and reporters on all the stations compare favorably with any other channels I've seen, and they've all been expanding either their news hours or facilities. It's easy to get an inferiority complex between New York and Boston, but in the case of local TV news it's not very justified.

I took issue with the incomplete coverage because they went on the air at 6p and dumped the coverage exactly at 6:15, before the coach had a chance to speak and right in the middle of a player talking. You would never see that in NYC, LA, Chicago, San Fran or any other major market. CT media is BUSH LEAGUE!

You would never see NYC, LA, Chicago, San Fran, or any other major media market cover a women's college basketball championship PERIOD, let alone cover even part of a team's return live. You think if UCLA had won, the affiliates in L.A. would break into programming to cover that team's return? Hell no.

At least Fox61 made a little effort, even if it may not have been enough for some people. Just a couple short years ago Fox wouldn't have even bothered covering it live at all.

Top 20 markets cover events the right way. There is absolutley no comparison between a top 20 market broadcast station and CT broadcast stations. CT stations are a steaming pile of garbage. A person would have to be deaf, dumb and blind not realize it.
