Office policy: No more AC until "Hey Soul Sister" is gone

I have made it official policy in my office that the radio will not be set to any Adult Contemporary station until they stop playing "Hey Soul Sister" three times a day, every day, like they have done for the past year and a half. Anyone else following suit? Even though Classic Rock isn't everyone's cup of tea, productivity and morale have already improved.

That song's popularity baffles me. And it won the Grammy. Ugh! :-\

Does it test that well?

There is even a "country" version with steel guitars added. I dunno how well it's done on country radio, though.

atlantaboy, isn't B98.5 playing it? I'm sure they'll consider it a "current" well in to next year.

I hope this song burns eventually. It's terrible. I hear this awful group all the time between "Drops of Jupiter" "Calling All Angels, "Hey Soul Sister" and "Marry Me." :'(

HSS is quite a catchy song. I'll admit to its overplay, but if it tests well with its audience, then AC will still play it. Now, "Marry Me" on the other hand...my girlfriend loves but I hate it.

Add me to the list of those who are sick and tired of "Hey Soul Sister" as well. It's use in that stupid Samsung commercial in which the kid designs his own refrigerator was enough to sour me on that one, both the commercial AND the song!

Everyone email your local AC stations a link to this thread! 8)

Oh yeah - all the time - B98.5, Star 94, and Q100 all love it (still) - Dave FM used to play it a lot too, but I think they finally burned out on it

Actually, professional offices shouldn't be playing AC at all until they get rid of Bon Jovi and Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga for sure. But Bon Jovi isn't to bad.
PROFESSIONAL offices. Banks. Insurance companies. "Bed of Roses" and the Jennifer Nettles duet. Otherwise, no.

When it won a Grammy (isn't it too old to qualify?) my girlfriend said "That song has such a happy beat, I hope they never stop playing it". There must be a lot like her out there.

What's gonna happen if people go into a bank and hear Livin' On A Prayer? They're gonna leave and go to another bank cause the music is too "loud"?

And, sorry to ask, but are you even in the 35-54 age bracket? If you're in your 60s or older, AC isn't targeting you...

I actually once was in a Bank of America when they changed the radio station after "Lite FM" decided to play "Another One Bites The Dust".

Which Lite FM was it, KVIL 103.7 Lite FM Dallas/Ft. Worth?

Wow I guess the guy's got a point then -

Are we sure though that the main purpose of the AC format is to provide lite background music in banks?
