Well it Seems there is alot of people looking at CC Sandusky and the BAS and what they are going to do. I am new to the board but it seems that if so many people know so many things why not instead of typing what you "know". Try and help who you think will be affected?
Yet another reason why not to go into radio.
I just graduated from college and am not persuing a radio job right now. I have nowhere to get my feet wet. Small market stations that you would traditionally go to are now being voice tracked, run by a bird, or simply are being moved into larger cities. Hope those planning to get a job in Northwest Ohio enjoy board opping HS football on fall evenings and basketball during the winter.
There's another thing we're not factoring in. Should the FCC do this whole local push they've been talking about, it'll totally change the situation.

Honestly I feel bad for some of the employees who Bas will no longer need to run their satellite dishes. I really was hoping that Jim and TK had more invested interest in keeping such heritage around.
What they really need is local morning talent on WCPZ, WMJK, WOHF, WFRO, WTTF, WPFX, WLEC, WQIO and WMVO. Even if its one person doing mornings by theirselves on each individual station, it would be a major improvement and an important one for the company.
For example -
WFRO - Someone Local
WMJK - DC
WCPZ - Randy
WOHF - Nancy
WQIO - Eric
WMVO - Adam
WTTF - Jason
WPFX - Someone Local
WLEC - Mark
They also need to hire a corporate consultant. I would advise them to hire LINCOLN - HAMILTON MEDIA who specializes in small unrated market consultant, studies, etc. Their headquarters are in Springfield Ohio. And they are very low cost...next to nothing. They have worked with me in the past and do an outstanding job.

You mean a certain person who does mornings on a certain station in Sandusky that when the ratings are bad...they say "Sample size too small and its Sandusky". But when the ratings are good...that same person says how wonderful Arbitron is?

Soon ratings will not matter in that area anyway. Once the Boring Audio Service(BAS) "good old boys" take over, the first to go will be the 50,000 watter. It will lose 3/4 of their local clients including car dealerships that won't buy into dish feed crap-ola. They might just as well go off the air completely than run that garbage in vacationland where listeners are so used to LOCAL talent & programming. What's the matter with you people. Sad thing is I won't be able to hear it all go down in Feb. because they're too cheap to have a webstream much less a web SITE. Oh, wait, WMJK might have "theclassicrockexperience.com" . Oh boy. The only one that may survive would be their AM since the 90 year olds will be happy to be hearing the lovely music again. That'll make BAS(Broadcast Alotta ****) look like the pillar of the community for about a month. Maybe they'll play some decent muusic like some Cat Stevens. Or maybe Enya? The new Enya?

I gotta agree with you. Its going to be a very sad day in Vacationland once Bas takes over on a programming stand point. What makes me extremely sad is they dont care about programming. They hire Ops Managers who have only worked in News. They wouldnt know what a OM/PD if it bit them in the ass.
On the other hand, they do market stations well and they do make money. The problem with that is WCPZ is a 2.2 million dollar station. Bas wont make that, they might turn it into a 800k station. Lets hope for the future of radio they get a hair brained idea to hire a consultant who will take programming under their wing and actually make atleast some fools gold out of their heap of metal and satellite dishes!

Hey Kentucky I'm not sure where you get your info on CPZ numbers, not to say it should not or could not be a 2.2 mil station, but they are not even close to sniffing that...I think alot of this speculation on the BAS boys and how things will be handled will be answered after Feb. 1...from what I've heard on what is going to happen most of this speculation here is way of base...it is funny though how all of the satellite bashers on here never mention that most of the CC stations were voicetracked or off the bird like Bob and Tom and Big D and Bubba...

Kentucky, Unfortunately by the time the get consultants in to tell them they should have local airstaff back to fix the disaster they have (or are creating) it's going to be too late. I feel bad for everyone who are going to lose their jobs, especially Nick Vincent (if he does get canned) - how long has he been back? A month, at best. What a nice New Years present for he and his family. But he is just an example - I feel bad for all who are going to be hitting the unemployment line.

BAS is a good company when it comes to the top down. They have people in the highest positions that are good, strong characters in the business. Personally I like Jim and TK. I think they are intelligent people.
What I am saying is from the bottom up, they are lacking. They have people in places where they shouldnt be. I guess what I mean is they could bring people in who could fix the foundation and keep it stable. Once your foundation begins to show signs of weakness, it will effect the top.

Kentucky, Unfortunatley Sandusky as a cluster still isn't sniffing 2.2. And as far as the BAS bashers, it will be fun to see them proven wrong as far as the local programming that will be in place as well as the current staff...it is sad to see all of the speculation on people losing jobs...when you talk about companies pilfering a staff CC is as about as bad as it gets...Stay tuned Feb 1 is fast approaching...BAS...Live...local...connected...

One other point, speculation is fun but reporting issues as factual and not being remotely accurate is another. Like reporting Arbitron information!! KENTUCKY MEDIA...you need to get it right!
While I find this blog stuff humorous at times, it's also obvious no one on this blog has ever owned a business. Look around you, every business tries to balance sales against expenses. If expenses exceed sales...there is a problem! Anyone who has ever owned a business would know that it's tough to keep your head above water and until you write the checks to keep your employees in a good job with good health benefits, You'll never have a clue! Of course, you're probably sitting at the company computer on company time...on this goofy blog complaining about the very business that's paying you to punch the next button!!!!!. I need a cigarette.

We'll guess what, it's time to start cutting expenses. No bank is going to sit through a 'but we have good, local employees on our payroll' explanation from BAS when the loan payment is overdue.
