Official: BAS and CC close the deal

Thank you RF Man. I thought my history was correct on this.

WQIO in 1987 or 88 was still going to be lisenced to Mount Vernon, but yes...had worked out a deal with a land owner in Mount Liberty to construct a new tower there. The land was already for sale, but something had fell through at last minute.

Now from the stories ive heard and even a copy of the ratings for Columbus from 1989, WQIO had a very nice following in Columbus. WQIO actually had pulled a 3.9 share. WNCI was still doing well, but had been on a slight decline with the advent of WQIO. Now if im not mistaken, this is before the Great Trail days.

93Q WQIO never pulled in a 3.9 in Columbus, the signal was ok but never that strong, and back in 89 the measured market was much smaller,

and in 89 it was still the Morning Zoo. different people but still the morning zoo

Wqio as a major Columbus player was in the cards at one time though. The owner had brokered a tenative deal with a farmer around Mt. Liberty to relocate the tower on another high hill there back in the late 80's. Before the deal could be finalized the owner managed to upset the farmer in some way and the deal fell apart. If successful it would have put a strong signal over most of Columbus as the high ridge terrain which keeps the signal at bay now would have been surpassed.

Stephen Zelkowitz tried to fashion the Super Q like a Columbus station. He told all station personnel to nix unnecessary references to Mount Vernon and focus on sounding like the station was in Columbus. I'm not shocked to hear the deal with the farmer fell apart at the hands of Stephen. He was a very difficult man to deal with in any capacity.

At the end of the day, the BAS stations care a lot about the communities they're in and it's evident with the amount of news and special events coverage. Minus a local morning show, WMVO has remained the same as it's been for years. It's public affairs, local news and information and sports coverage.
Ahem, I don't think so. At the end of the day they're just trying to swindle another community. This time Hancock & Erie Counties. It's like the freshmen running the seniors out of the school. That's funny, "minus the local morning show"-why would anyone care to listen to their satellite mush if they already could listen to the force fed misfirings of "Eagle" 99? It all goes back to my original thought: DON'T BUY 'EM IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD 'EM! especially running people out of jobs in a city they've never been in before. If they care so much about communities they wouldn't have come in & turned the clusters into 2, 1 or zero person operations, and you will not secceed!

Sir, after reading your post it's abundantly clear you have absolutely, positively no idea about the topics you speak of.

WMVO runs Doug Stephan's Good Day in the morning, followed by local programming until 2 p.m. WMVO joins 400 stations around the country who run the very same morning program. It's plainly obvious that you have zero familiarity with this particular station.

Where are you getting your information about BAS anyhow? Do you have any idea at all what you're going off about or are you just tossing some venom their direction because you're angry about something?

And where do you get that the stations aren't succeeding? Nothing could be further from the truth. Have you seen the sales numbers or are you once again just blowing smoke?

WMVO is local until 2 or 3PM. Thats great! No one ever complained about that. What about both FM frequencies in Fremont or even the massive FM they own in Mount Vernon?

Jenny Murray would be amazing in morning drive on Eagle 93.7. But will they do it? Will they move programming on the FM to WAITT like they should have done in the beginning?

Shelloutfalter. I have never had an issue with you, TK or Jim. They are very smart operators. But you have to agree they could have seriously hired a programming consultant. Thats all ive said since day one.

They had a company tell them that people like the "Eagle" name and love to hear Peter Stewart and the folks at ABC radio networks. Thats ludacris!

WAITT is going to be the best thing to happen to them...trust me!

Another thing I will tell you is that if BAS decides to go with WAITT, their ratings will immediately go through the roof. They will go from having a .03 share to having a 53 or 54 share. And with the special ratings calculator I used, I can say with absolute assurance that this will all happen within one month. Those are the kinds of numbers WAITT is putting up. Its kind of like having a magic genie where you get 3 wishes.

If BAS switches to WAITT, they should ask for the following 3 wishes to be granted.

Wish #1: I wish for our radio stations to have a 10000% increase in listenership over the course of one month.

Wish #2: I wish for our radio stations to have a 10000% increase in sales over the course of one month.

Wish #3: I wish for our terrestrial broadcast signal to spread across the entire Earth without fail, reaching peaks of mountains and bottoms of valleys. As well as in all airplanes and cruise liners.

If those 3 wishes were granted, BAS would be about .25% of the way toward catching up with clear channel.

Thanks Kentucky Fried...ROFLOL....oh man...Thanks for the laugh:->

I believe there to be a severe lack of Swing or House Swing music in the Clyde area. That problem should be taken care of by BAS not kicking employees to the curb and getting some professional swingologists like myself into the large vacancy that is BAS. How many national/international Swing/Ska or Emo Swing shows are out there? HMMM??? Don't try to take MY idea. I've already had it copywrited. Just remember where you heard it first. I'm not saying put it on a 1-A signal station but at least give it a nice 5,000 watt punch out to the cornfields where listeners will drool with joy! That is all.

Oh. My. [diety of your choosing].

*begins bashing head repeatedly into desk*

Could one really move WCKY to Bowling Green? Kentucky media only gave watts, but how about a Class B1? Would that be possible? And what the heck is WCKY short spaced to? Detroit? 103.5? Last I checked 92.5 is in Toledo and 92.3 is in Detroit....now that's really short spaced! Two class B's. Will an engineer please help my brain wrap around this?
Any news of a sale on wcky?

BK

I'm not an engineer, but there's a 103.9 across the border in Adrian, Michigan, that might be of relevance.

I think WAITT offers much more of a programming ability than ABC ever has or will. What I was saying is that nearly a year ago...everyone at BAS thought ABC was the best thing to ever happen since sliced bread. The whole time, I posted how WAITT has really stood out as an outstanding and award winning sat operator and how many companies have switched from ABC to WAITT. Yet BAS still continued to believe in the ABC cause.

ABC knows that most companies dont even know that WAITT exists and im sure they feel comfortable. However once companies like BAS switch to WAITT, and realize how much better of an operator they will become, look for ABC to get a little more on the scared end of the road.

Well, WCPZ DID indeed take WAITT after all, keeping the "Mix" name. The way that it's arranged, YOU CAN'T TELL if the programming originates in Sandusky or off the bird. Which is indeed very positive. Hopefully they lift bring WAITT programming onto both WFRO and WQIO.

If im not mistaken, there was a person who worked at BAS complaining because I recommended WAITT over ABC Sat. But I was crazy for thinking Waitt is far superior. And this person was right because they felt like they were....hmmm

NO NO NO!!! IT STILL SOUNDS LIKE BEAMED IN SCHWACK. I HAD TO ONCE AGAIN PHYSICALLY THROW MYSELF AGAINST A WALL AFTER ATTEMPTING TO HEAR 12 MINUTES. SOUNDS LIKE THEY PRE TRACK THEIR GENERIC NON SONG INTRO LINERS AHEAD & USE THE SAME ONES OVER & OVER & HAVE ONE OR 2 AN HOUR LOCALIZED LINER ,2,300 PROMOTIONS OR CONTEST TRIGGERS. STILL VERY NON LISTENABLE & NOW EVEN LESS VARIETY OF A SONG SELECTION. AND STILL NO SWING!!!IF SOME DESPERATE NEW TO THE AREA SUCKER EVER DECIDES TO HAVE PAY FOR A REMOTE ON ANY OF THE "THREATENED THREE" THEY COULD SET UP A MANEQUIN AT THE REMOTE SITE WEARING A STATION T SHIRT HOLDING A SIGN SAYING "I AM WHAT LOCAL RADIO HAS BECOME". WITH A SPRING HOOKED UP TO IT'S JAW MAKING IT LOOK LIKE IT'S TALKING WITH PRE RECORDED LOOPED COMMERCIALS PLAYING OVER & OVER FROM A SPEAKER IN IT'S MOUTH.
SINCE THERE'S NO SWING OR SKA ON THE HORIZON I SHALL WATCH AS THEY STEADILY GO BELLY UP & WON'T EVEN BE ABLE TO TELL JUST HOW BAD THE RATINGS ARE BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD A SUBSCRIPTION TO THE RATINGS BOOK. SEE? THAT'S HOW IT GOES WHEN I MY SWING IDEAS ARE SNUBBED. I QUOTE THE BRILLIANT MIND OF ONE RICHARD CHEESE IN SAYING WHAT THIS OPERATION IS DOING TO THEIR LISTENING AUDIENCE--- "RAPE ME MY FRIEND". THANKS TO THE GANG AT TODD'S DINER WHO APPRECIATE REAL MUSIC. THAT IS ALL.

KING! There's this little invention called the Ipod. Buy one with the most gigs you can get and load it with all the "schwing" you want. Listen to your hearts content, and let those legs start to jitterbug! THAT is all.

(Nightfly puts on his sunglasses). Are the beamed in voices really out of some cornfield in Omaha? :D Is that mid day voice still on there that sounds like he's gritting his teeth when saying his esses? :D

Here's more ways they can slash costs before it all caves in:

charge the 1 or 2 jocks you have left rental for studio time. better yet if there are more than 1 jock, why?
encourage 1 jock that's left to sound like they're from Omaha to make stations sound more "balanced out"
charge the 1 jock that's left a fee every time they say their name as a "self advertising" charge.
do away with all newspaper/trade magazine subscriptions.
put in pay toilets.
do away with coffee, tea, drinking water, paper cups, condiments, first aid kit. You get hurt there's the door.
do away with heat & air condition. Tell staff to dress accordingly or there's the door.
bring your own toiletries including towels & t.p.
take out energy consuming personal convenience station & lunch room or charge for use of electric microwave & refrigerator freon charge.
charge jocks on remotes for use of equipment.
no cel phone or smoke breaks.
any free food brought in as trade out, do not give to jock (tell them to lie on air & say it tastes great), but instead take to the nearest homeless shelter & use as a tax write off.
convince listeners that paper t-shirts are the "in thing" & sell those with station logo on front.
charge office staff for use of internet, pens, phone, desk space rental, etc.
have asst. GM syphon gas from employee vehicles for use in station van/management vehicle during long mandatory full staff meeting. (He'll call GM after he's sucked the whole lot dry then meeting will let out. Charge admission to mandatory meeting).
charge for parking, including listeners picking up prizes.
charge release fee on prizes of no value.
use acreage behind/ in front of station to grow fruit/ vegetables. what can't be sold to neighbors/tourists, donate to local shelter & use as tax write off. Better idea than Dick Goddard's TV8 Acres.
skip rock salt & plow service. If you can't make it in there's the door.
dock overweight employees for moving slower than rest. $5 per lb. over what their average weight should be.
give mandatory seminar on staying skinny. Charge admission.
do away with lunch hour. like Mr. Hand said - "Eating will be done on YOUR time".
have "intern appreciation month" where interns run all aspects of station. for free. Charge them for use of freedom.

(Nighfly picks his teeth to remove some of the caca he's been spewing). Kentucky media buys "I was right and I like me" T-shirts. Nathan Obral no longer needs an inhaler feeling like a real broadcaster again. ;D

Hey Nightfly!

Slow down with all of the potential cuts, the Clear Channel people are still writing down the first cut -- they ARE using a third-grader as their transcription intern, you know! ;D

And you also forgot:

Nighttime jocks must continuously turn a manual crank-powered generator in order to keep the the beacons lit on the transmitter towers.
