Alright, I'll bite. According to yes.com, WFEZ "EZ-103" is now all Christmas, starting Thursday, 11/16 @ 7pm.

So far, no one has followed suit. Which is good, becauase it's still too early IMHO.

I came to hate Christmas music, and being a jock was the sole reason. One station I worked at let you play ANYTHING they had in their Christmas library, which was next to nothing. Another station was the same, but although they had probably a hundred LPs, they were all old and obscure. Then...then there was WARM. WARM was the worst, hands-down. We had maybe, MAYBE, six to eight songs in the Christmas rotation. It was positively awful. And by the week or two before Christmas, that's all we played, the same handful of Christmas songs. And that was in the 70s, before WARM went to hell. Come to think of it, it might one of the myriad reasons WARM did go to hell.

I'm impressed EZ waited this long. Last year they flipped Nov2. I started to think they would wait until Thanksgiving. Foolish me. Why is it stations are all or nothing with Christmas music. After Thanksgiving I like to be eased into Christmas. One to two songs a half hour and work your way up to total Christmas by a few days before. You either have to listen to an all Christmas station like EZ or virtually nothing at all on other stations. I also agree with MasterG. Stations that play all Christmas play the same few songs over and over and over..........again. There are how many Christmas songs out there but it always seems by Christmas I could puke when I hear Bruce Springsteen's "Santa Clause is Coming to Town."

I believe I read that Magic is starting its Christmas Music Thanksgiving and right through Sunday...but will go back to regular programming during the day...and then play Christmas music at night. Not too bad. The only thing is I think Christmas music should be played during Christmas week through New Year's Eve...but these stations usually stop on Christmas day...and then just a song here and there during the Christmas week. I like Christmas music...but wall to wall is too much!

Based on what has happened in this market the past couple of years, it appears Magic has determined that they can with stand an onslaught by a full time Christmas station. I'm guessing their cume is so much higher than EZ's that it doesn't matter what they do. Unless EZ were to really market this with a TV campaign, they probably won't cut into Magic...much. However, the fall book will probably show their highest numbers of the year anyway.

masterg, I couldn't agree with you more. I Spent the better part of my 15 + years in radio playing every version of White Christmas, Rudolph,(and I could go on for hours) etc. My better half can't understand why I can only tolerate this seasons music on Christmas eve.

Yeah and now QFM is doing Christmas too... How 'effin original is this lame market......

marker102: I don't know about your FM receiver, but mine is tunable. If I hear a tune I don't like, I switch. You should try it. If that doesn't work, I go to satellite. After that, out comes my iPod. If WQFM is playing Christmas, Love it or Leave it. It is a simple concept. This market is what it is. I, for one, don't lose any sleep worrying about it! Sweet dreams...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!

I must be the odd person out because I like the wall to wall Christmas music. I think it is good that I can switch over to a station and listen to Christmas music anytime I want. I don't listen all the time, but when the mood strikes I can flip right over and listen to the holiday tunes. Granted I don't like that they start before Thanksgiving, but since I don't listen to EZ 103 or QFM unless I am looking for Christmas music it doesn't disrupt my "regularly scheduled programing."

Just tuned in to QFM and The Fugees, followed by Miami Sound Machine. No X-mas music today (Sunday).

I like ice cream, but I don't want it at every meal. A little Christmas music goes a long way.

Is there an ounce of research to indicate that being the first with the most in Christmas music builds any kind of listener loyalty? My point is that jumping all over seasonal music might be based upon an outdated, and therefore false, assumption. Personally, if I feel like hearing Christmas today, I'll scan until it pops up, but won't really much care what station it is, and certainly won't feel compelled to stay with them for any length of time...

I am just stating that every time around this year, every "easy listening" "soft rock" etc format ceases their format and goes all Christmas, leaving their original format gone. Leaving no format on the radio that is an alternate to Top 40/Country/Classic Rock. Don't worry ColorRadio, I usually do listen to sat radio most of the time, but I'm still a terrestrial radio person at heart, so I tend to flip around to note things.

I hope that QFM sticks to their format more than doing the 'all Christmas' thing. I see billboards up all over the area promoting that you can find the lost hits of the 80's and 90's there, so I hope that they would stick with that and let Magic and EZ battle each other for who can play the most Christmas music.

This arguement is as old as the chicken and the egg. You either like it or you don't. It's essentially 45 days out of 365, so in the end, what's the big deal? There are people who like a particular station's format, but then it gets interrupted night after night for a baseball or hockey game for months at a time. A month or so of Christmas music isn't going to make the world come to an end. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Interrupting format(Phillies)played a huge role in WARM's demise, no doubt in my mind whatsoever. The sales department ruled on that one, because it was quick and easy money.

Oh I suspect it took more than Phillies baseball to destroy this once legendary station.

My remarks were that breaking format played a huge role in WARM's demise, not the sole reason for the same. I was there, I know. Once WARM made the turn away from strict adherence to what made WARM great to begin with, the slide began.

In the mid seventies, WARM had the Sunday Night Sportsline with Ron Alen, George Gilbert and Pete Ericson. Ran three hours and they talked Phillies, Eagles, everything. THis was like a precursor to getting a sports affiliation. When exactly did WARM get the Phillies? I'm guessing around '78, '79?

P.S. And from a sales perspective, you are correct. Selling Major League baseball, (especially the Yankees) was like taking candy from a baby.
