Oh classical fans.....

For those expecting QXR to simulcast on W244AS, well, it looks like I am hearing tropical instead of classical. Guess that answered my question.

WNYC has already said that they plan to use the translator in Oakhurst for WQXR. They probably have to change out or re-tune the receiver. They also may need a new receive antenna if it was specifically tuned to 96.3...or WNYC may decide to deliver the audio via HD (WNYC-FM HD2) or satellite.

Give them a little time.

They are doing both, going to the translator and simulcasting QXR on 93.9 HD-2 via NYRMB.

Apparently there is an older Bext STL type FM receiver there and while you can receive the 105.9 signal quite well on a car radio in the parking lot next to the tower that receiver was just not sensitive enough to lock up on 105.9. The licensee is still working on it. I would say its presently a receiver issue there.

Now I've read something on another message board regarding about W244AS:

"If the translators are owned by the licensee of 96.3, and are now owned by the licensee of 105.9, FCC rules may impact rebroadcasting 105.9, because of the smaller 54 dBu contour of 105.9" -Greg Strickland

So would this mean that W244AS will no longer simulcast QXR, and QXR might have to use another translator, which W268BM 105.5 Atlantic Highlands can reach 105.9's signal better and is currently not in use, or is there a way to bypass it and have QXR back on 96.7?

Which is not available.

W288BM's construction permit was rescinded by the FCC back in 2004.

See:

Just curious since that transmitter was closer to reach 105.9 than W244AS, but here's something interesting via radio-locator.

http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/info?call=W244AS&service=FX

Although when clicking on W244AS, it directs you to WQXR's website, but registered WCAA as it's parent station.

W244AS is owned privately. The licensee called me recently and mentioned he was obtaining a tuned antenna and upgrading the connecting line, so he is still working on it but plans to resume repeating WQXR as soon as his upgrade equipment comes in.

Makes sense now. I happened to stop by the Hudson Valley board and ask the same question and they told me W279AJ had no problems with the WQXR feed during the swap. Then again, I'm sure either that translator had its upgrade or was newer than W244AS.

Apparently classical will be back on 96.7 by next week. Nothing against classical, but we could've had something different since all these stations are playing the same garbage heard everywhere else.

Well, WQXR got their transmitter back. Hope everyone enjoyed the month of the mono distorted sound of WXNY.
