oh so jeff and jer are going to do mornings at MY

why didnt u just say so?

AHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now it all fits together!

Originally, I had thought that they would end up at KPLN, since Bob Bolinger was the OM, and was their boss at Star, and Q106, (and, lets face it, this Jack format doesn't really mesh with them), it was natural that they would end up at KPLN. But it was just a guess at the time, and others were thinking the same thing. Then came the Reader article, which turned out to be bogus, essentially. And of course the management at KFMB publically responded that they would stay.

And then Bob Bolinger left and went to clear channel.
Now here's the interesting thing, from my perspective.
You see, many of us who used to work there, know that My94.1 was a repackaged Mix95-7, which was repackaged Q106. So I guess it shouldn't have suprised anyone at this point.

But I must add, that I never thought I'd see Jeff and Jer end up working for Clear-channel, especially because of all the bitter feelings between them and predassessor Jacor. But I'm told most of the Jacor people are now gone from Clear-channel.

So this raises some new questions (and remember, these are just questions, not news), is Tracy Johnson soon to follow them? And, since it's Clear-channel, could Jeff and Jer now end up syndicated like L.A. on Star 98.7, or K-Big104?

And I wonder if they'd even be on the air here in Texas, going head to head with Kidd Kraddick? But I guess will have to wayyyyy stay tuned for that one...

Boy, I don't think that would work. Their show is so localized they couldn't syndicate, and the localization is a big part of what earns them their San Diego numbers... it's a Catch-22. Modify the formula to succeed and you wind up losing.

Future Of KPLN???

> AHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. I agree. Bollinger going to CC was the death knell for KPLN considering that if Jeff & Jer were going to leave Tracy Johnson, they'd just assume be with Bob. First, Stern leaves terrestrial radio, then Bollinger goes to Granite Ridge, and then adding insult to injury...signs J&J his first or second week there. If it weren't for having the #1 station in the market, life would really suck at Viacom right now. Viva La Planeta!

Here's why I disagree with you.
It takes an assumption to think that Jeff and Jer would not change their show for syndiation. If they did, I do not think that their show would suffer in the ratings that much. Heck, they could even decide to do the show from L.A. and syndicate down to San Diego and get away with it. Jeff and Jer's audience in San Diego is very loyal, I don't think they would have a problem with this.

Why?
Becuase LA is not that far from San Diego, they'd just be covering more of Southern CA. And, do not forget that at one time, they were heard on AM 600 also, and began to get nice following up to the north.

But the bottom line why I (respectfully) disagree with you, is that we don't really know, sine Jeff and Jer have never syndicated before. So I say, why not try it and see how it goes?

Re: Future Of KPLN???

Life not sucking at CBS/San Diego (don't forget, they're becomming the Eye soon), may only be 50%. I believe Stern is leaving his post about the same time Jeff and Jer are leaving theirs.

I wonder if Jaggar and Krsiti will end up in again mornings soon?
(Oh sorry, just thinking out loud).

Reality check Garrett. Nobody currently
knows who Jeff & jer are in LA. They
were a non-factor on the old 600 AM
frequency.

Please fogive me KM,I a sorry, I should not have reacted.

Jeff and Jer Haiku:

Jef and Jer will move.
Jack won't listen anymore.
So the two will leave.

What about Little Tommy Sablan? I expect him to follow
the 16-year SD duo. Might cause a certain stomach
ulcer for a certain morning show folk.

Big loss for Jack FM. Tracy Johnson blew it.
Bob & Sheri as backup coming back? ;-)

Maybe Infinity woulda flipped KPLN to Jack FM instead of Star, 'cuz Star's ratings were so high. Could KPLN go CHR to compete with 93.3? Maybe hot AC as Mix 104 or Mix 103-7, all 'cuz you can save 91X?
Edited by PassDutch on 07/21/05 12:43 PM.

Mmm. Perhaps. But remember what happened when Mark and Brian tried syndication. They, too, are a heavily localized show. They attempted to "fix" this for the national market listeners, but it didn't work - so much of their relatability was local that when they stripped it out, they weren't interesting anymore. LA listeners hated what happened, and listeners in other markets didn't care.

I won't argue with your theory, but there is a factual error. The Jacor people are not all gone from CC. Unfortunately for the industry, shareholders and employees, John Hogan, Tom Owens and Jack Evans (plus many more of the senior management corps)are all from Jacor. That was the most absurd fallout of Mark Mays dumping Randy Michaels...he lost the brilliance, and kept the deadwood. Fortunately people like Charlie Rahally and Bollinger are not former Jacor nor deadwood.

I've never encountered such thin skinned PC crap
in my life. Since when is "reality check" a
negative term?. KM, you're really starting
to p--- me off. What, did I fire you in
the past? Garrett is simply a pesty little
radio fanzine type guy.

And you were leading him on. IMHO, YMMV.
