I heard him last night on his usual night spot, I thought he was on the short shift after Barfsky. I do not listen to YSP, since the talk approach, so I don't know what is up there. IMHO this guy stinks and should of been canned ions ago. Now I finally know why there is an abundance of Urban formats and little new Rock product on the scene, although there is plenty of New Rock coming out. The reason being the industry is force feeding this on the public, like it or not. Yesterday, I tuned into MTV which had Thug Rappers on spewing their hate, then to VH1 which was playing Rap/Hip Hop videos, then to MTV-H, you guessed, it Rap videos, MTV2 had Rap/Hip Hop programs, cribs, sukka anything but real America, MTVS, Hispanic flavor, VH1S, Black/Soul videos, MTVJ Violent, Gang related Rap videos, Can you believe VH1-C had a soul show on, this is when they are pretenting to be all metal this month. GIVE ME A BREAK, how the hell can the youth of this country get any Rock exposure when the middle aged, white, bald, cigar smoking **** are in control of the music industry, retreating to their sacred suburban palaces after work in the rough, tuff city. In Philly, there is one half station playing some new rock, MMR, and over 10 playing some sort of urban product.

While there may be "new rock" coming out, it needs to be quality, otherwise nobody will listen to it. The problem is that people who are into rock tend to hang on to the bands they like and shun the newcomers (thus the rock stations tend to skew to "classic" rock). In the Hip-Hop world, the "new thing" is what it's all about, and therefore the newer acts continue to survive. Talk to a lot of rock fans and the thing you'll hear most from them is, "The new bands suck," or, "There is just nothing good out right now." Even as a fan of rock, I think I'd rather hear 50 Cent's latest than the latest Nickelback atrocity. In addition the Hip-Hop fans are more vocal. They put their music at the top of the charts and spend tons of money on the products. Rock fans tend to pick up their favorite albums, but rarely with the voracity of the Hip-Hop fans. You just have to face that facts that one genre is bringing cash in by the buckets, while the other (while still making money) tends to bring it in a bit slower. As a station owner you're going to back the one that's putting food on the table. Business is business.

Here in lower Bucks most of the high school aged rock fans do not listen to Nickelback. They listen to more internet only bands that do not get major radio airplay in this market. Some examples: Matchbook Romance, Panic! At The Disco, Dresden Dolls, Taking Back Sunday. I must say that this summer has the best new rock/alternative singles/CDs that we have seen in a few summers.
