Oh the auto dealership spots!

It's obvious why the airwaves are so inundated with dealership spots. Get into the listeners' subconscious in some way & stay there so when it's time to buy a car, be it next week, next month, or next year, you'll be remembered. It's difficult for stations to even space them out at times. But does anyone really pay attention to them? Do any of you? Are they causes for button pushing if you're driving. Do you tune into them mentally only if you're in the market to buy? I'm a bad example, as I buy at the closest dealership to my home rather than go through the hassle of distance when it comes to service, but what's everybody's opinion? I don't always button-push during stopsets while driving, but these spots cause me to as unavoidable as they are from a revenue standpoint.

Isn't this a much larger question; does advertising really work? Of couse it does. When I wanted to get new car insurance about a year back, I called Geiko & Progressive first. It's hard to believe it does work, because I agree with you that convenience is a first for me... but surely you're wearing some sort of name brand article of clothing!
