OH WOW!!!!!!

Hey guys I am kinda curious as to what you think of the latest Ratings as it seems between B106 and WWNU only .2 seperates the two stations...... I don't get to listen like I would like, but just kinda curious... CC1

Carolina 92 must be getting popular. I only get WTCB where I am, but they serve a big niche with the lighter songs, compared to WTCB being more upbeat. They do have Tim Miller in the morning, and he's a popular personality.

I am sure B106 will rebound, but if it does not and things stay tight with those two stations once the cloud company comes in I could see some changes... Not major as B is a cash cow, but some changes... CC

I don't think B106 is going to rebound much. You have a 3-way AC race right now with everyone basically tied.

WWNU is basically where I thought they could possibly be. It just happened sooner than I expected and with a format execution that is older than I would expect.

I still think the highest you are going to see WWNU hit is a 3.0, unless something changes in the market.

I also predicted earlier that 92.1 would top out at around a 3. It did happen sooner than I expected too. However, Columbia has a history of being rather enamored with "new" stations and then summarily breaking up with them.

A couple of other things: Given B-106's 100k powet, it really shoudn't be this tight. What up with that?

Fox, even though it's a monthly, got beaten by WISW-1320. They are at 2.2 if I am remembering it correctly. In the late 80's, they were in double digits and at or near the top of the heap. Wow.

Al:

I don't always think it is a matter of absolute power. It's a matter of enough power in the right place. B106 covers a lot of territory outside of the surveyed area. So for all intents and purposes, they are all pretty much equal, even with WWNU being weaker to the East and West due to its directional pattern.

I think this is the first trend I can recall where WISW-AM has beaten three FM signals with far better coverage.

Dudefan: I agree that it's not always absolute power. But in my limited experience and with the markets that I'm familiar with, the big sticks are almost always in the top few spots 12+. And that makes me wonder about whether B-106 is living up to it's potential. Even though I am aware that they do exceptionally well in their target demo.

Sorry for all the typos in my last post. I must be tired.

I our area a lot of places play our station (WLRE) in the background with some playing it part time when they want country music. I have noticed that when they are not playing us or the places that don't want country in the back ground often play 100.3 WORG or B 106.7. WWNU's signal doen't reach our area and I am sure this is the same in many different areas, so the stronger signal of B 106.7 gives them a greater advantage in the outter areas and towns that surround Columbia which is a bigger coverage area. The only problem I have noticed over the years is that often on a 100k station, they don't ever seem to have enough sales staff to cover all or most of the businesses that are in their total coverage areas.

Even though 100k's reach those smaller areas, the spot rates are for Columbia. So many Orangeburg, Sumter, Florence-type cities cannot affort to advertise on the big signal Columbia stations. Quite frankly, that's what keeps many of the small market stations in business. They are affordable to their local businesses.

I had to comb back through my memory a bit to figure out how true this is, but I think WARQ is now .1 to .2 share away from where WAAS Star 93.5 was right before the flip to rock in 1992. I know I have some old Arb books from then in a box somewhere.

Heck if someone was to do CHR with WNOK VT'ing so much of their shows now the key would be "Live and Local". I would love to see a good old fashioed Top 40 way, but as much as I would like to see it I really don't think it would happen. With a lot of the top 40 music Rhythmic now a days if 93.5 would go CHR they would take even more ratings away from Hot 103.9 which when Rainbow started ways a much better station. What Columbia needs is a good Adult CHR to make NOK stuick to one format and one format only... For so many years WNOK just like B106 has been able to move in any direction they wanted, but with a good Adult leaning CHR it would force NOK to stay the course on one set format and to a certain extent make B106 do the same thing... If someone is gonna do CHR they are gonna have to have mega street skills and no matter what is taking place "Be There". JMO... CC1

Well programmed country and CHR are probably viable opportunities.

Inner City will probably continue to slug it out with the stations where they are.

If the trend is any indication, the Spring book is going to be disastrous.

2nd CHR sounds good to me, one of the more interesting format wars. I know I'd welcome a 2nd CHR in Greenville.

Then again, 104.7 is much better than B93.7 here, musically at least.

All the Clear Channel CHRs usually sound good and are well executed. They ought to, given how much research that company conducts for the format. With the exception of the major markets, most Clear Channel CHRs just seem very generic and uninteresting.

The one voice tracked "talent" that I wish they would send to Siberia permanently is the god-awful voice-tracked from Charlotte "CJ." On the bright side, he's not a puker, because you cannot puke in monotone.

Latest trend (Phase II Winter 10-11) pretty much has WWNU topped out just under a 3 share. The River is going down the river a just over a share (!!!) and our friends on Pineview continue to have just over a 1.5 share.
