O'Hare out at DRC-FM

WOW!
It didn't take Jerry Kristafer long to whack her...
What do you all think will happen next? Another co-host or just JK, a massive ego, and a time telling pig?
I wish Marianne the best of luck. She deserves it.

I'm not sure what folks are so excited about for this Kristafer fellow...He tells long, boring, uninteresting stories and I have not found him to be funny, although he appears to believe he is funny. I didn't "get" that he and Marianne fit very well and that may point to the ego thing. Personally, I'd be happier if he played more music and spoke much less. The artilcle in Java stated that Buckley Radio claimed it as a financial decision. Well, it's all in the ratings and the ad $ so time will tell.

He probably works better alone. No one to disagree with him. Marianne can do much better. Too bad for WDRC...which is rapidly becoming unlistenable.

Are you talking in the mornings or all dayparts? Ever since they audio's been fixed I listen more and more on the weekends!

My morning listening is usually restricted to a very small amount of time. But I have noticed that O'Hare loves to interrupt. Seville seemed to tolerate it fine.
When I attended NBI in the 80's, Kristafer was one of my instructers. He was interrupted a few times by the students (including myself) with comical interjections. Suddenly, Jerry made it known he didn't appreciate it at all and would like to continue with his lesson / lecture uninterrupted.
My suspicion is that something to the parallel occurred in the studio.

There's a full-page ad in the New Britain Rock Cats program this year pushing JK and MO. I believe the team only prints two editions a season, so any MO-less revised ad will have to wait till July.

I worked at WDRC for 5 years. Back then JK was a tough guy to get along with. Rumor has it that he left the first time back in 1997 cause Gm Wayne Mulligan through him a surprise 15 year Anniv. party. to which he no-showed. And a few other reasons which I will lweave up to the imagination.
That station is having an identity crisis. They don't know what to play so mid level mgt. just said to heck with it.....let's just free wheel all over the road (AOR)
That station is going to start dropping like a lead balloon in the ratings.
They are ripe for a broadcasting blood bath!

In no way is DRC an AOR. Mike Stevens apparently has the freedom to play three or four AOR hits a night (i.e. "My Old School," "Paradise By the Dashboard Light," "Stairway to Heaven") and Ron Sedaille can take requests for just about anything on Saturday night, but everything else the station plays in every other daypart is 1964-1979 Top 40 material with a few '80s tunes. I'd put the playlist around 700 songs in regular rotation with another 500 or so popping up infrequently.

No surprise there! I love the management line "Creative differences" translation hated each other's f@cking guts. Morning guys in this state have serious ego-maniac issues. They think cause they are close to NYC that they deserve to work there. I can't even remember the last morning guy that came out of CT radio that ever made it in NYC????? Cause they are fragile egos with no ballz!

Glenn Beck anyone?

I heard Glenn Still has a house in CT too. Anyone know for sure?

Yes he does...I know several NYC radio people who live in CT.
Tom Cuddy, Glenn Beck, Gary Del Abate. I'm sure there's a much longer list

I was also told that he had a house here in Southington too. Small world.

Wow...didn't know Mike Stevens is back at DRC-FM...the Mike & Beth days are in my mind the zenith of what good CT radio is all about. Didn't know about Beth and health issues either...if the radio angels could reunite this couple if at all possible it would 'make things all better' in my mind. They were personable, lovable, magical both on and off air. Glad you're back where you should be Mike, behind that DRC mic!

Hi Bill, I'm a long time DRC-FM fan. (I've been listening on and off for most of the 26 years I've been alive). Mike's absence from DRC-FM was short lived. About 10 month. He returned to the station in May 2006, so he's been back almost 2 years. To me he seems out of place on the night show. While he's the regular host of the night time show (7PM-12Midnite), he regularly fills in for Larry Wells (9AM-2PM) when Larry is on vacation. When he fills in for Larry, Rockin' Ron fills in on the night show. (Ron hosts 7-Midnight on Saturdays)

MarcB...thanks man for the Mike Stevens update. At the time I was working in Hartford on construction administration projects DRC was my daily diet for quite some time. Then down my way (Mystic) Jim Reed and gang at Kool 101 really got the format pumped, added a few announcers of note (one I knew of from my Cape Cod days) and diversified the 50s/60s much like I remember hearing as a kid. I also work part time nights 6-11 so catching Mike will be in the last hour of the show, sadly.
