Ok... another pre-amp.... TC Gold Channel?

Anyone ever use it?

I'm having issue getting a warmer sound from my 416/ISA220 setup, and I don't want to EQ more low end in. I don't think that's the answer.

My buddy suggested the PSP Vintage Warmer. Any other ideas??

I have an AirCorp 500 for sale if you're interested. I think it's very warm, but I do
commercials, mainly for TV, and and I don't need warm, I need it to jump out of
TV speakers. For imaging or trailer work, I think the AirCorp is great. Kinda of a thick
warm sound with built in EQ at 140hz, 2.5 hz and 5hz. $350 plus shipping.

I wouldn't mess with the EQ at all. There are several plug-ins that emulate tube gear. Vintage Warmer is good. Antares Tube is alright. I think Ozone 3 and T-racks are the most subtle and the most realistic.

We use AirCorps at work...with RE20s... not a fan really of the combo. However I know Jeff uses the 500TV in his chain with a 416 and sounds pretty good.

I have an Avalon M5 at work with a 528. I'll try the 416 with that combo.

I'll let u know in a day or so.

Thanks!

It's sounds like the 416 and M5 should be a winning combo!

Take your wife/girlfriend to the Bahamas instead!

The M5, with an older Symetrix 528 for gating, did indeed warm up the 416.

But....not fully satisfied. Dont sell the AirCorp just yet!!

Chuck does that M5 exhibit a lot of self noise? It sounds kind of "white noisy" to me..or was that the M5 sample that you sent me? FYI I am NOT using the preamp in the AirCorp..I use somethine else feeding the AirCorp for a subtle processing effect..

Emmett...

any suggestions/recommendations on a "warm" sound using Ozone 3? Thanks!

It's very subtle, but set up a single-band chain and use ONLY the harmonic exciter. Set it to "tube" mode and then drive it to taste. The harder you drive it, the more you'll have to back down the output to avoid clipping. Tape mode also does nicely, but it is a different effect...Not warm, so much as just nice. If you're using it with other processing, I'd run it after the compressor and before the EQ....Or after evertyhing.

Jeff, The M5 should be very, very clean. As I recall, that's a Class-A solid state preamp, and they don't get much cleaner.

On a sid enote, a friend has just started using the new SSL preamps with the harmonic drive control. He says they are absolutely amazing. As I recall, a four-channel unit is only $1700 or so (I say "only" because SSL stuff is usually outragious).

Jeff.... I know what your talking about...seems to be additional noise somewhere.

Chain is 416/M5/528. I've adjusted the 528 Comp Threshold to -10. I had it at +20 and it was overmodulating, even though the M5 output was barely registering. Weird.

I'll send another sample Monday from work.

I hear you about the read and making it believable. My reads need work.
