Jeff-

Thanks for posting this about the 416. I've been considering buying one for months now and it's good to hear differing opinions.

However, when are you going to post some audio? I'd like to hear what you sound like on the sennheiser as compared to your other mics...

Same is true for animated films like Shrek, etc. Neumanns are warm. The 416...not "warm".

Hey Mike, just realized who you are. Chuck here in Toledo (Zone).

Blame Ernie Anderson for the 416 being used as a voice over mic. Because of it's tight pattern and built in EQ it really cuts thru. It tends to help out those with already big pipes.

I track my female midday jock (Zone) on a 416 (with a dBX286a > UREI 1176LN blackface). She sounds great. Has a smoky voice and the 416 makes it shine. She won't even use the stock RE-20's we have. She always wants to use the 416.

YO! How are ya? Yeah, I do like the warmth of Neumanns...if you really want a nice fat mic, Telefunken ( the honest-to-God ones ) sound amazing. Of course they should as much as they cost...

Good the hear from ya man! How's things sounding and stuff??

When you get a chance, shoot me some material...

I'm not imaging Zone. I just the few outstanding pages they had. The PD is doing it. Mostly promos. He doesn't really do the overall picture. I think the morning guy and APD split imaging duties.

I'm imaging the classic rock and Top 40/R.

Jeff Laurence, a contributor to this board and my former oldies VO for now defunct WTRG/Raleigh, uses a Telefunken U47 (you own 2 don't you Jeff?). FAT sound. But as you can read on some older posts, the Peluso 2247 LE (and others) are less expensive and sound as good.

Re: Here's a real NEGATIVE opinion of the 416

I use a U87 on the road in the RV studio..That truck is NOISY, and use of the AA noise reduction program takes a lot out as far as generator and Air Cond. noises..but I am going to try the 416 in there to see if it notches out some of the inherant noise from the rig..without having to use much of the NR..Also going to try BIAS "Sound Soap" to see how that differs from AA's NR program..Anybody ever use Sound Soap? It looks neat..there's a 600.00 version and a 99 dollar version..I bought the diet version of course.
