I was told to listen to WABC Saturday night for Music Radio 77. An oldies show on Saturday nights. Wow! What a concept.

Was I the only one who was disappointed? Who is this DJ? Is this the BEST that New York can deliver as an oldies personality? The guy was BORING!!!!

I'm sorry. But THE MOST LISTENED TO STATION IN THE LAND should be able to produce a REAL oldies show with an EXCITING personality. He continuoulsly apologized during the show for the way it sounded and said they would get it right "in a week or two." Hmmm. I have heard more exciting personalites on WRDV.

I guess even HE knew that it wasn't going well. Maybe even HE was thinking that he wasn't the right dude in all of New York City to host this show. And there wasn't anyting extraordinary about the songs that were played. Most of the selections were standard hits that you would have heard on WPEN during their last attempt to save the sinking ship.

After 10:00 the host on 1520 WKBW welcomed back all of the listeners who tuned into "that other thing" as he put it. Very clever.

It was not so bad, though it can stand improvement. 23 years since music was played. There is some getting used to. This guy had a bias to "talk radio" as he wanted to take too many phone calls.

He said that he used 8-tracks (I interpret that to mean carts). How many songs were carted up? Probably not many. The lack of music may have been why there was so much talk.

I will hold my judgement for a month. He should get it together in a month if he ever does. Now, he is making a good faith effort.

Time will tell.

The DJ did afternoons on WNEW-AM back in the 90's. He took a music-intensive show and made it mostly talk. Bad move. This was in the last days of WNEW before it was bought by Bloomberg and the adult standards format moved to 1560-WQEW.

Why not get Dan Ingram, Harry Harrison or Cousin Brucie? Since Bruce Morrow did the Saturday night party show on WABC for years, that would be a good move.

> I listened for the first hour and found it so unenergetic and Mark Simone is not the person to be doing this show. Unfortunately, Dan Ingram's health prevents him from doing the show. Brucie maybe prevented contractually because of his Sirius deal. And i only heard one 50s song while I was listening. This show needs improvement. Yes, it was the first week, but it really needs a transfusion on energy.
