I had a Sales Person Say to me today. I do Not go to my clients remotes during the week after all whats in it for me they said.

Is this something New? In My 30 years in the Biz Sales People were expected to be at their clients remotes.

So I Gotta Ask..... What would be your response

Double C…admittedly I’m old school. When I was in radio sales (full time), I would help the air talent set up, and assist during the remote; gathering client sales points, interviews, etc., and also help tear down. I’m the sales guy who sold the client on doing a remote. What would the client have thought about my credibility and that of the station, if I wasn’t even at the remote. Plus, the air talent appreciated the help because it made them more successful as a “pitch person” for the client. I’ve been on that side as well, and definitely appreciated the help and focus. What’s in it for the salesperson you referred to? How about repeat sales? Geez. Radio is indeed it’s own worst enemy. Oh…my response to that salesperson…time to look for another job.

If he/she has to ask, "What's in it for me?", he/she must not be much of a salesman. Sales manager, or even the GM, should have a talk with this person. Just my opinion. 8)
