OK, I'm annoyed

Call this a rant.. I totally enjoy listening to online radio streams.. Great radio stations near and far.. Is it me, or lately the comercials that bridge to the streams are much louder than the audio levels of the streams themselves.. I have found this occurance with a variety of formats, and broadcast companies.. Kudos for selling the space, but just because it's 10x louder doesn't mean I'm going to move 10x faster to support the sponsor..

Isn't this fill material (web-only spots, PSAs, whatever) inserted by either the streaming provider or a 3rd party? I'm not sure how much control the station has over levels, processing, etc.

Gadon...just a bit of advice to solve to problem with streaming....Just stream the Catamount Radio stations in Rutland. I bet there's no problem with the volume on the streaming commercials on their stations!

I can't speak for the Rutland stations, but we sell streaming to local advertisers. Now we have about 25 local businesses buying spots across 5 stations. It's great incremental $$.

Alright, you've pushed my button! Time to add to the rant !

How many times have you heard a web stream that is mono but is *clearly* missing one channel in the mix.

Imagine an old Beatles tune, or, well, anything from the 60's and early 70's missing one channel. It can mean you miss the main vocal and only get the slap of the reverb...or lose some instruments like the drums and guitar.

There is no way anyone who listened to the stream would not hear the problem! But there lies the key, I'll bet most web streams are checked down in the IT closet on a 3 dollar speaker... if noise comes out, than it's OK. No one from the station *really* listens.

OK, end of rant... back to listening to BBC Radio 2, their web audio is amazing!

Happy Holidays,
Joe T
