OK lets try this again Rush in the Merrimack Valley

since the Moderators are of the opinion that a certain AM station that is in NH only because of the City Of License BS, and moved the thread to the wasteland known as the NH radio board... here is my work around to get it discused back here on the Boston Board.

FYI Rush Limbaugh can be found on a new affiliate W275BH-HD2 on 102.9 , Eagle Costa's simulcast of their AM 1110 signal.

Since 1430 barely makes "fringe" signal penetration into the Merrimack Valley, the FM is a good alternative right.... even if the signal is less than 100 watts

W275BH-FM simulcasts "Power 800 AM", the old WCCM "Radio 8" that was part of the Curt Gowdy empire years ago and sister to the old WCGY 93.7 way back when before it was sold to American Radio Systems.... and then to Entercom.

W275BH-HD2 simulcasts what is now 1110 WCCM, that has a city of license of Salem NH since Lawrence was already served and they needed to hide it in Salem NH to get the license.

Thanks, MRBI! It was my post that was banished by the moderator, but, hey, yours has way more information in it than mine, so, a tip of my hat to ya!

When the AM radio in my Volvo S80 is not giving me an enormous amount of hash due to Volvo's poor layout of antenna cables, both AM 1110 and AM 1430 come in about the same on I-495 South in the Haverhill-Methuen stretch. While the sound quality is definitely better on the HD-2 channel, the signal does not carry very far once one gets off of I-495. In fact, HD-2 reception from ANY of the local stations up here is spotty at best.

Do you think it is costing Costa Eagle the same price of $1.2M/yr. that was claimed for 'RKO?

that figure was kind of fuzzy math, some of it was cash, some of it was barter, IIRC it was something like 700K in cash and 500K in spots.

If WRKO was running PSA's because of unsold inventory, playing Premier Network spots in those same breaks in place of PSA's was costing them nothing.

The question is what was Premier dictating for placement? If you were giving up the ability to place sold local inventory on Howie's show, probably the highest rates on the card, then it becomes an issue.

I know Premier is adverse to giving Rush away for a discount, or free, because it then makes every other station across the country want a rate decrease, and lets face it love him or hate him, Rush has had issues keeping top tier advertisers, you know the ones that help pay that very large check he gets every once in a while from Premier. The syndication company needs every dime of cash, and revenue for clearing spots in top markets to make the numbers work.

Even though the 1110 is in the Boston DMA, and the 102.9 HD2 too, neither one of them has a large enough coverage area for the local sales folks to make huge money selling Rush. I don't think Eagle-Costa has deep pockets or is flush with cash.... I doubt they are paying a lot for Limbaugh, hopefully CCM&E or whatever we are calling the evil empire is paying then to run it, or at least getting it for next to free.

one last thought... at one point I read that the Rush replays on Saturday were contractually required. I didn't hear them playing him on the weekends after he returned from the failed 1200 venture, but even if they had to play him on Saturday for 3 hours, what are you really giving giving up? The revenue from a Bill Kelley type, or colon cleanser shows? What ever happened to Purity Products BTW?

Just my opinion, don't assume anything I said is based on facts
