OK, now the Best/Worst in Bangor

Let's see your opinions on the Bangor market.
I'm an average listener and tend to hop around the dial a lot but I do have my favorites... (Scomo at WKIT, always entertaining and topical)
...and least favorites (Breakfast Flakes on Q106.5...why are they always SCREAMING and trying to be funny?)
I also enjoy Joe McMillan on WNSX and The Kid on Z107.3. Dorian Daniels on 92.9 is also pleasant to listen to.
I am not in broadcasting but it's obvious to me they put a lot of effort into their programs.

Hey Turnitup,

I think that Nelz...oops, I mean that Nelson Jewell at 92.9 WEZQ is the cat's pajamas...just kiddin'.

It's interesting that you mention the efforts of Dorian Daniels. I just told her three days ago that her show had more meat than mine. What a great voice and personality...she is major market material.

You're right...Scotty Moore rocks...always has.

I disagree about the Breakfast Flakes...it's a matter of taste. They're still the number morning show in the market, and they keep getting nominated for CMA and ACM awards...national notoriety. They must be doing many things right.

McMillan's voice alone is amazing. I've heard some of his show...he is certianly polished.

Because I've worked in the business for so many years, I really can't cast dispersions. All of us behind the mic have our killer days and sucky days. We all have our diehard listeners and followers, and we all have those that hate us with a passion. That's show biz, fellas.

I agree; I think the Breakfast Flakes got it goin' on! Funny stuff ... great chemistry. My "Best In Show" award, however, would have to go to Kid at Z-107.3. Pound for pound, station for station, format for format ... the best all-around jock in the Bangor market. Funny, topical, spontaneous, smooth ... and the guy's got perfect timing. If I sounded that good I'd probably still wanna be on the air every day.

Kid is really good. And let's not forget Mike and Mike..

i would agree, however their time came and went when they jumped ship to Clear Channel. They had a brief good run at CC when they tried to syndicate to the Augusta AC station but were dumped in favor of M&M's main competition in Bangor (Bob & Sheri)

Not Bangor but Portland: I had the chance to listen to WGAN when I was on Cape Cod a few weeks back and I really enjoyed the top of the hour newscasts. The anchor seemed top notch although since I didn't know what the heck they were talking about, I didn't listen beyond the headlines. Nice job though.

The above post leads to a follow up. It seems radio news is not as it used to be. A few headlines and that's it. Who in Bangor has the best news coverage/announcers?

KIT is really good at the news updates, i think they, EZQ, WVOM and Q106 are the only ones that do a noon update.

The kid is pretty decent. Of course after 2 decades of playing that music, I'd be ready to dive in front of the first greyhound bus I saw.

KIT.. local is good.

Same with QCB.

Afternoon guy (Jeff S.) on WZON pretty good. Entertaining... good guests.
better than WZON am show

I agree about the WZON morning show. Same thing EVERYDAY. Some of the supporting players (The Professor, the news guy, Early Morning Mike and Jim Churchill) are pretty funny and often make the show tolerable.
Oh by the way Nelz, I listened to you the other day. You do a fine job. Keep it up!

The best in Bangor is Bobby Russell, Scotty Moore and David Issac from WKIT-FM. The worst is Ric Tyler and Phil Kaiser at WVOM-FM. For a self proclaimed christian Ric is one of the meanst people on radio. Phil is just plain dumb.

Glad Bobby is getting some well deserved props on this board. I listened to him on Z-62 back in the 1980's. He sounds like a nice guy and I have always enjoyed his work, even though I can never win playing the Timeline Game!

Thanks for the accolade Turnitup. From an on-air personality's perspective, many of us agree that the Kid on Z-107.3 is tops. He's entertaining, quick-witted, topical, etc., etc....Holy crap he's funny. He is major market material. The great thing about the Kid is that he is the real-deal. Within our radio group, he is always cracking us up. He's great to work with.

Here is the unfortunate truth. The best in Bangor: Howie Carr, Rush Limbaugh, Delilah, and Bob & Sheri, Bob & Tom. The worst in Bangor: Cumulus and Clear Channel because they won't pay to develop great local talent.

If it is at all possible Phil Kaiser sounded dumber than a pile of rocks yesterday. How does this guy manage to dress himself everyday... or does he?
