OK, then, does WMC79 go jockless/satellite or have PERSONALITIES?

I'm afraid I know the answer, but wouldn't it be great if we could hear Les Acree or Aunt Eloise Louise again?

What do you think they will do?

My thinking is that they're going to have to take advantage of absolutely every possible connection to the old days that they can get access to, but do you realize how long that's been now? Most of those people are probably long since retired--some of them probably aren't even still amongst the living. Whatever I know about country music, I know largely from my parents playing that thing non-stop back in the 70s--in the car, in the house, wherever else they could find to put it on. Using them as an example, however, my mom's 69 now and my dad's 76. Time marches on, and it just gets tough to put the band back together after a while, shall we say.

I'm afraid they will go jockless. What I THINK they should do...well, if I HAVE to think corporately:

Satellite would be fine for say, maybe middays and certainly after 7 PM. I'd do live 6AM-7PM if I could talk some suit into it. I think they MUST have a friendly morning show (it wouldn't have to be a 'team' or anything like that) and probably a good solid afternoon live jock at minimum. It would all depend on the ultimate goal. If they are just looking to take a few listeners away from Kix by default then I'd look for them to do it on the cheap.

Here's an outside-the-box thought:

You think Tom P could pull off a country legends morning show? If he's looking to retire in a few years the extra money (a little) might appeal to him.

Think they would spring for Bill Dotson, Crazy Eddie Edwards, Robin Scott, the aforementioned Les/es Acree and Tivers, Toby/Aunt Eloise? Shoot, the last time 79 beat Kix (about 20 years ago), I was there (my hiatus from WZXR during the Z103 era) along with Mike Edwards, Rob Harder, Steve Thomas, and Debbie-before-she-was-Montgomery to mention a few.

If any of the country staff were still around and willing, they'd be silly not to grab a couple at least.

Z103. Jeez, I'd mentally blocked that out. You brought it all back.

It'd make money. The Bud contract alone would be worth thousands!

Presto a Country jock? Well... boys & girls Tom could do ANY format and sound like a pro.

Hey, I'll cyber-track on the cheap. Would anyone listen? Gimme middays. I'll take requests right here at home. How's that?<P ID="signature">______________

Sure, Tom P could do a classic country morning show. I seriously doubt that would happen. They're gonna do it on the cheap....probably satilite. If they do have a live show in the morning, it'll be someone you've never heard of, or someone with a big name but no radio experience. Eddie Bond would be be good...is he still alive?

I think I know where 2 of the above mentioned are but don't think they would be able to go...

Les Acree is PD at KMRD 101.1 Shreveport,La. (Cumulus)
Crazy Eddie Edwards is on WNOE 101.1 New Orleans,La. (Clear Channel)

RFLA

Bill Dotson is back Aunt Eloise at a Clear Channel Station in Greensboro. No way he's coming back to Memphis.
