OK they are trying in Jacksonville, FL

We finally got FM urban Gospel..Former Tama Radio outlet 92.5 WFJO is now JOY 92.5 Jacksonville's inspiration Station. The signal don't cover Jacksonville that well but there is a construction permit to cover the city.

Urban Gospel is a great format, especially in heavily populated African American cities. Considering Jacksonville already has an Urban and Urban AC, this looks to be a smart move. However, a fresh new Urban station wouldn't have hurt neither.

i would have to agree ive found so many flaws in 93.3 the beat and V101.5. V101.5 ran the same show two days in a row..i noticed the music log as well as what the midday host was saying. how low can you get. T Roy on 93.3 still havent got the hang of what city he is in whether its Philly, Savannah, or JAX.

According to "JoyRadio Jacksonville", the official Facebook page for Joy 92.5 FM, the nationally-syndicated "Yolanda Adams Morning Show" and the "CoCo Brother Show", which comes on in the evenings around 6PM or 7PM on the weekdays, is coming to Joy 92.5.

BTW, the sister station of Joy 92.5 (WFJO) is Joy 100.1 in Savannah, which has been around for about 3 years and it features both of the fore mentioned shows. Furthermore, it is also part of the former Tama Group that is now in receivership.

Sounds like your typical Radio One "PRAISE" station.

I heard on 92.5 today that the Yolanda Adams Morning Show and Michael Baisden Show will be on the station on August 22, 2011. I agree that the Yolanda Adams Morning Show should be on the station because it fits the format but Micheal Baisden? ??? ??? Why in the world they want to put a secular, R&B-themed program on a gospel station. I have nothing against the Michael Baisden Show but he belongs on a R&B station NOT a gospel station. If they do make this move, it will only confuse listeners and it turn many hard-core gospel listeners away from the station, which will make the station fail in the long term. Overall, I believe that having the Michael Baisden Show on a gospel is a train wreck waiting to happen.

Actually, IMO it could work. Only if they were too add some R&B to the mix. Remember this station is a big deal for the Jacksnoville Urban audience since it's new and not a CC property. Looks like all dayparts are syndicated except middays. So is a R&B/Gospel format a trainwreck?

When are we going to get a gospel station here, (DFW)?

Shawty i can agree...but if they are going that route..why not Gospel in mornings and all day on sunday and go secular on the other day parts. Or like you said some what of a mixture of it all. but honestly if it bills gospel i would like it to be 24/7. Second no word on Co Co...i dont think he is going to be on that station.

I went to the Facebook page of Joy 100.1 in Savannah, the sister station of Joy 92.5, and asked them if the Co Co Brother Show is coming to the station and they said yes.

Also, if I were to program Joy 92.5, I would change the format to R&B for most dayparts on the weekdays but I will keep Yolanda Adams Morning Show and Michael Baisden in the evenings. Furthermore, I would also change the name of the station to "Hot 92.5" and change the call letters to WHJX. Finally, I would play Gospel music all day on Saturdays and Sundays so that Gospel music fans can still listen to gospel and church-related programming on FM. That way, we would keep fans of both genres happy and it won't cause any confusion among the listeners.

Ideally, I wish there were too separate stations to put both formats on but the reality is there is no more room on the FM dial in Jacksonville to create another station. Also, I don't see any other company in the Jacksonville market other than Clear Channel putting another Urban station in this market so it is what it is. Finally, all of the stations that are owned by the "big boys" like Clear Channel and Cox in the Jacksonville market are very successful so I don't see them changing formats anytime soon.
