OK, WE'VE HAD 10,000 106.7 POSTS...........LET'S MOVE ON TO THE NEXT FLIP

Sports radio is a long-time, national strategy for CBS Radio, so I would not surprised to see it supplant "Dave" at some point...especially if that station isn't going gangbusters.

They zapped an alt-rocker here for a "Fan" sports talker.
 
To me and millions of other locals that would be the death nail for this frequency, we already have an FM translator for the Fan @93.7 and is quite a good signal, and 790 the zone is doing ok, not a third sports format, no.
 
The Atlanta sports radio market (for a non-sports town, really) is a bit more crowded than we have here. Here, only WKNR/850 and its puny mostly syndicated little brother, WWGK/1540, were in the format until CBS launched "92.3 The Fan" last August.

"The Fan" in Atlanta is owned by a different company. I meant CBS' use of that name for its own sports talkers, starting with the original (WFAN in NYC) and all of the FM ones started recently, including WKRK.

I'm not at all saying it's a likelihood. "Dave" could be making money for them.

It looks like Dickey's down-the-hall-from-Cumulus 680 The Fan is going to be a CBS Sports affiliate thanks to a joint venture between CBS and Cumulus: http://www.radio-info.com/news/cbs-and-cumulus-to-launch-247-cbs-sports-radio .

Wonder if this means a potential simul of 680 on something more substantial than the 93.7 translator...97.9 or 98.9? 100.5? 92.9?

Could some kind of a "I'll scratch your back, you scratch mine" deal be in the offing? Would Cumulus kill 99X to help Dave or Journey to help a CBS classic hits station as well as open up a better FM signal for 680?

And sure enough, WCNN(AM) Atlanta is listed in the list of Cumulus markets picking up some CBS Sports Radio programming.

(I say that because technically, "680 The Fan" is not a Cumulus station, being under the Dickey banner, but it's a technicality in a deal like this.)

Here, I imagine "92.3 The Fan" (WKRK) will automatically replace Fox Sports Radio in January, and perhaps contribute some regional programming (perhaps to Cumulus' Youngstown sports stations, which aren't on the list because Youngstown is a sub-100 market now).

But in Atlanta, does this move kill any speculation of CBS launching a local sports talker, or would such a launch just preempt working with Atlanta's "Fan"?

Looks like 680 will be the "CBS local sports talker". The only question is what they might do on the FM side. I could see either CBS or Cumulus going all-in with 100.5 or 92.9 on the FM side, or maybe moving 93.7 to a better translator.
 
I can see Cumulus flipping 100.5 to a Gold AC or mainstream 70s-today AC,which there is more need of now than when WYAY was here.

Power 96 Miami has been cursed ever since the legendary Dj Laz left. It was one of the best rhythmics in the country. Now it's being transformed into a basic rhythmic chr just like any other. Dj Laz was a pioneer Latin Booty Bass and Miami Bass rapper / producer. He was also the best behind the scenes of WPOW, Miami's Party Station.

How is this possible? Is he syndicating or something? He just made his move to his new home at LA 96.3 in L.A. (formally LATINO 96.3). It's one of the 34 rhythmic chr's they have in LA but with a latin flavored twist. Almost as many chr's there as there are urbans in ATL...
