Ok....what about Rock???

Ok, we got Movin 93.9 but I still can't believe LA doesn't have an active rock station.

Artists like 10 years, Staind, Shinedown, and Avenged Sevenfold are big and lot of rock songs are getting mainstream play (at least on satellite radio, which to some extent like "Sirius Hits 1" is mass appeal). I don't agree that there's not an audience for it in LA metro area....it's just the big companies won't put out a rock station so people think that.

KROQ is watered down, wuss rock and has a different audience all together.

Looks like the IE has better variety of stations now: most LA stations plus KFRG (country), KCAL & X-103.9 (rock) and an extra hip-hop station, Wild 96.

Glad I have satellite, but it would still be nice to have a true rock station.

L.A. can't support any more rock stations. KROQ and KLOS are about it unless you count the pathetic Indie 103.1. Face it, the demographics of this market just don't warrent any future rock stations.

This has become one highly competitive rhythmic market though. There is no market anywhere that has as many stations playing different forms of rhythmic music, Hot 92 Jamz, 93.5 KDAY, Movin 93.9, Latino 96.3, 100.3 The Beat, 102.3 KJLH, 102.7 KIIS-FM, 104.3 KBIG and Power 106 (and Super Estrella 107.1 in Spanish).

Possibly a fringe stick for Rock - would make some inroads.

And I nominate the stick at 92.7 FM currently a pathetic piece of garbage playing all the 80s and 90s songs no one else will touch and for good reason! ;)

BTW a shout out to Neel !! School must be keepin' you busy!

Dude why do you have to dis indie 1031 like that?I just moved here from louisville,ky and i love indie and kroq is pretty good and i have my liberal radio here.Go to louisville,ky you can get all the active rock you want.Louisville is a bad radio market. Two active rock stations with one playing a handful of alt tunes.

Hey, thanks man. Same to you. I've been out for awhile now, but work nontheless keeps me busy.

I still can't totally see there not being enough demographics....and yes, I might be a little biased, since I want to see a rock station in LA....but honestly, I don't see rock a niche format like dance. The audience that KROQ reaches out to is not the same as what an active rock station would target. On the other hand, KLOS is classic rock, so again it's different. Some rock songs are reaching mainstream and yet get no airplay on LA radio. I agree tho, that LA is more of a rhythmic market, and hence, the numerous rhythmic leaning stations, but i'm sure it's just a cycle and not all will be around in a year or so.

The IE can support a station like KCXX, which targets KROQ listeners, but is quite different in music and presentation. I don't see a huge change in demographics from LA to the 909. Maybe there is?? who knows?? For now, thank goodness for satellite radio.

But if a small station were to do it, i say 93.5 FM

The issue for 93.5 FM is that the coverage area is heavily Ethnic - Hispanic and Black. The coverage of Orange County is where the two signals tend to fight and there is more interference.

For either Country or Active Rock - one needs Orange County first and then the Santa Clarita and parts of the SF Valley. Active Rock also would have some audience on the west side of L.A. (103.1 could be a signal for that).

93.5 not a great choice for white...
