I actually like Ksfm,, and Kdon 102.5 and wild 94.9 and kmel..... but your right, those other stations suck,, arent even hip hop stations, just black music for suburban white boys, and jocks that try to talk black.... if you have white jocks then give the station a chr presentation, dont try to feel the streets when you have no clue............yeah I hate having white djs that try to talk black........ Im a white guy, but I think blacks should do the more rap heavy stations, and the whites can do the stations like b-96 chicago, and hispanics are good for stations like Power 96 miami and power 106 LA.....
I agree. I believe anyone who supports real hip-hop(Lil Wayne not included and other mainstream music, aka hip-pop) should run the urban contemporary stations/rap stations. Hip-hop stations are suppose to be playing hip-hop, actually real hip-hop with real lyrics. Unfortunately, KSFM doesn't really count as a hip-hop station. The only time they will play hip-hop is during Club 102 on Fridays and Saturdays. KMEL is the best station in northern California, although they do play a lot of R&B and southern music, but real music though.

Yeah, you guys in Northern California have a slew of crappy Rhythmics, but 106.1 KMEL is amazing. When I visited family there, I was blown away by the station's presentation and playlist. I couldn't believe that station is owned by Clear Channel when I found out.
I prefer to listen to KMEL, but I could only listen to it online. I live in Sacramento and on the 106.1 dial, there is a spanish station that takes the spot. If it wasn't for the spanish station, Sacramento would be getting KMEL. Although KMEL plays a lot of R&B throughout the day, along with lots of southern music, they play real music(hip-hop, bay area music, real R&B and good southern music). They are not as mainstream as KSFM, KYLD, KWIN, and KBMB because they don't play pop songs. I prefer KMEL and KBZR 106.5 The Buzz. They play 90s music and they play hip-hop often on that station.

The irony is that KMEL used to be CHR/Top40 back in the day, LOL

I also love that they do play a lot of R&B because I love hearing real R&B and soul with my hip-hop. KMEL, WVEE, WPGC are my 3 top stations in the nation hands down.

And I like 96.1 The Beat in Charllote, but its not supposed to be a rap station,, we have Power 98 for real hip hop-rap.....

Ehh Power 98 plays too much slow r&b. I'm down in the Charlotte area for the week visiting my parents who recently moved here. The station is decent, but it really seems to be missing an edge to it, not hard enough.

The Beat in San Antonio, it's is horrible point blank I've lived here for 5 years and it sounds exactly the same,, they rarely play any re-currents and the ones they play are horrible.. I know they're owned by Univision but they do absolutely nothing for the black community that is hear... I hate their imaging their website is horrible and a lot of the people that work there are cocky... San Antonio radio is horrible period.. I love listening to KMEL on my iPhone and I love Hot1079 in Atlanta... Also Hot105 in Montgomery is a good station sucks that you have to literally go to a predominantly black area to get some good Urban radio as far Rhythmic goes I hate it, the format gets the new urban music to slow and sometimes you want to actually hear R&B, the Rhythmic stations always have "#1 for Hip Hop and R&B" but either only play R&B on Sunday's or at Night or consider Usher hook on Gucci Mane's song R&B... Ridiculous save me from San Antonio radio somebody!!!

Let me start by saying, I am not here to defend The Beat or for that matter Univision. However, you must realize that Univision is a Hispanic owned company. Therefore, they are targetting the largest audience in SA, which the Hispanic community that well over 50%, compared to the Black community that is 7%. SA radio might not be what it was several years ago but it's by far not as bad as other markets.

The reason why it plays R&B is because Power 98 is a true Urban whereas WIBT is a Rhythmic.

I say stick your iPhone and listen to better programmed stations in other cities.

I understand that and they do a good job with who they represent but at the same time the majority of the artists they are playing are black so why not represent the blacks that are listening as well, and another they do that bugs me is they'll play a remix of a song before they play the original, it's one thing to play remixes during mix shows (which they don't have live mix shows the last time I checked so they can't be considered mix shows) but it's another to play a remix when the song is just impacting.... I believe that Hot933 from Austin was by far one of the best representations of what Rhythmic radio should sound like especially when they had cutting imaging from Eric Edwards and The Mix Group... The only positive thing I have to say about the Beat is that they have promos that help boost up their fan base like putting their sticker on their car to win gas.. It is brilliant and if they still had Romeo then I'd like it a little better....

I wasn't complaining about them playing r&b, but the fact they are too r&b heavy. To me, while I think both Power and the Beat are decent stations it seems Charlotte is missing a true hip hop station, by that I don't mean 100% hip hop or anything like that, but something a bit less poppy than the Beat, and not as slow jam heavy as Power. Perhaps that is due to the fact I live on Long Island, and have been listening to Hot 97 for many years as well as Power 105, and when I was in college a bit further east on LI (Stony Brook) also listened to Hot 93.7 out of Hartford quite a bit.

I don't expect it to sound like the NYC stations or even WZMX in Hartford, but I do think something a bit edgier with a heavier hip hop lean is something the market is lacking.

It all depends on the market, Charlotte had a hip-hop station once upon a time, it was on the 92.7 dial position and it failed horribly. Charlotte is just not a "hip-hop club music" market when it comes to radio stations.

Well no doubt POWER 98 has the big stick covering Charlotte all the way down to Greenville, SC(which by the way has no hip-hop). 92.7's signal isn't all that great, but Radio One has failed on this signal twice. HOT 92.7 was the Hip-Hop format at first, but Radio One didn't put much effort into it. Radio One then decided to go Urban AC as Q92.7 and this is when Clear Channel goes Rhythmic as 96.1 The Beat. The new attempt on 92.7 is now called MY 92.7 still Urban AC with some tweaking to the playlist. I would'nt be suprised if Radio One sold its 2 Charlotte stations.

Yeah, we got lame a** Cox Media to thank for phasing out the hip-hop on WJMZ Greenville in favor of keeping that crap on Hot 98.1. Cox, I swear is one of the worst radio groups when it comes to urban stations because practically all of them suck.

93.5 THE FLow up in da T-Dot. Their station is so back than when I used to lived up there I'm trying to pick up 93.7 WBLK from Buffalo.

Thats a major format hole in Greenville,SC. Cox really screwed Upstate South Carolina. 107.3 JAMZ "Todays R&B" is basically Urban AC while sister Rhythmic station HOT 98.1 "Carolina New #1 Hit Music Station"plays only top 40 hip-hop. No station in that area plays new hip-hop nor cater to African Americans 18-34.

Yes Cox's Urban station really do suck besides 104.1 in Atlanta it's ok I guess I still prefer Radio-One U.AC stations but I'm biased lol Power1067 in San Antonio was HORRIBLE, they didn't last here lol

Power 106.7 wasn't meant to be a serious contender in SA. Hence, the lack of promotions and tight playlist.

Everytime I try to listen to 104.1 I fall asleep or get sleepy because that most of their song choices are way too slow and boring for me. I miss the days when 104.1 used to compete with V-103 and played uptempo and current R&B songs.
