OK what are the worst Hip Hop stations

Can anybody name a single Cox Media urban station that caters to the 18-34 demographic does sound like something other than some bullsh*t? I've listen all of their urbans and their playlists are way too conservative and tight for my musical tastes. The only station of theirs I did like was WEDR until they screwed up it after Cedric Hollywood left back in 2005.

Cox and Urban are two words that don't go well together. 99 JAMZ/WEDR in Miami is all over the place. I visit once a year and find myself listening to the Urban pirates. When I visit Birmingham annually for the Magic City Football Classic, 95.7 JAMZ/WBHJ does a great job on the Hip-Hop music. I don't know how they sound daily, but they're the only Urban in town.

I'm a Birmingham native, and 95.7 Jamz is one of the most pathetic urbans I've ever listened to. I wouldn't even give them that about hip-hop since they add music so late and seriously lacks the variety between hip-hop and R&B. They don't know what they are doing other than just being there. Their only strong point would be their mixing, but that's about it.

Yea win I visit for the game, they're always killin the mix nonstop all weekend long. The live brodcast they do on Friday and Saturday nights are cool since its all Dirty South Hip-Hop.

I vote for 993 "The Beat" panama city. You call yourself a hip-hop station. Yet u have Steve Harvey in the morning and Kieth sweat at night. I mean come on really? ???

It's not the worst, but I'm not a big fan of Power 99 in Philly. They seem to lean more on R&B and I'm not a big fan of R&B.
It looks like Jam'n 94.5 has finally gone hip-hop... they don't play much top 40 anymore it seems. They're not that bad of a station.

I disagree with you on Jam'n 94.5 . 94.5 daily playlist is a total train wreck .

in my opinion i think majority of clear chaneel hip-hop stations are the worst hip-hop station becase they play way less hip-hop, and more R&B. Clear Channel urbans are programmed to play more R&B then hip-hop. as for jamn 94.5 i use to spend my summers in Brockton,Mass in h.s. when WBOT Hot97.7 was here is 106 & park rocsi was the 10am-2pm mid day mami. i never like jamn 94.5 i felt like there playlist was every where, and the jocks sound like they belong on a CHR station. the only jocks there i did like on the mic was Geespin and that blaze guy.

Get over it. The "rap" you're looking for doesn't work in most markets. You need a large black population for it to work. Otherwise, the Hip Pop played on the radio is on stations targeting whites and Hispanics.

It's not Clear Channel or Univision. It's called programming to the market.

THE WORST!!!!! THE JOCKS AREN'T EVEN LOCAL EXCEPT FOR LIKE 2 OR 3.

well im not moaning and crying how the music is on boston radio i dont live there i live in NYC but your right certain markets do program depending on the people who live there but im talking about in general how a typical clear channel urban station is programmed. power 105.1 a clear channel station here in new york yes they break records, and stuff but on the playlist is mostly r&b n less hip-hop..... i do have a question what happen to 103.5 the beat in miami are they doing the hip-hop and r&b format again?

Most Hip hop fans ( Black and White ) in Boston can't stand Jam'n 94.5 but its the only legal hip hop station in Boston .

These so-called hip-hop stations (more of hip-top 40, a.k.a. hip-40) bascially target females (mainly whites and hispanics). A lot of white and hispanic males listen to rap/real hip-hop. Therefore, hip-hop can work in most markets with significant amount of blacks, along with white and hispanic males, if the stations stop being scared of playing hip-hop and quit playing hip-pop.

I still can't believe that there isn't a radio group in Boston trying slice into that pie. Are they just not aware of the huge numbers Kiss and Jamn are putting up? Not likely

Hot 102.7 in Detroit is horseshit compared to WJLB (which, by the way, is owned by Clear Channel). Poor reception in the metro Detroit area (unless you live in Detroit or Southfield, your coverage is less than stellar)....horrible presentation.....their jocks sound lost at times....horrible editing in their music....I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT HOW UN-PROFESSIONAL AND UNFOCUSED THEY SOUND.

Wow this was last year and I'm surprised that KPWR in Los Angeles wasn't mentioned in this post because around summer of 2009 to pretty all of 2010 they were pretty big on the Lady
Gaga and David Guetta records. Black Eyed Peas  had always been a staple on the Power Playlist since they dropped "Joints & Jams" in 1998. Power 106 had since went back to playing Hip Hop & R&B in the recent months. They're very big on Frank Ocean's Novacane and that sounds something that Bilal or Musiq Soulchild would put out. BTW sorry to get off topic but it's also very reminiscent of Darius Rucker's 2002 hit Wild One which got alot airtime on Urban AC KJLH during 2002. Novacane is now getting spins on KJLH also.

POWER99 philly i dont know how they are still on the air with wired 965 and 100.3 the beat on the air cc was going to flip them 3 years ago but the djs stopped it from happening either flip it or relaunch it power 99 sounds old and tired

Would you say KKFR is better or worse than WJMN?

Does anyone remember when "the sign" by Ace of Base was huge on WJMN near the mid 90's?

What is wrong with WUSL Power 99 in Philly they focus heavily on the old & new music and used to play R&B exclusively during the day in the 90's and play rap later on from 6:00pm-10:00pm. I don't care what you say about it's still the best hip hop station. More focus progaming than the rest the of "CC jukeboxes" in the U.S. I'm talking about KHHT.
