93.3 The Beat in Jacksonville anyone? by far the worst in the country when it comes to urban radio. I have heard stations in smaller markets that sound better than that fiasco Clear Channel is putting on in JAX.

Not entirely. WPGC and Hot 93.7 have both spun soft rock ballads by Wham!, Simply Red, Michael McDonald, Phil Collins, etc. during their slow jams shows in the past. It depends on the programming and the stations' pertinacity target a crossover audience with certain song choices. Just because some abhor such song choices during their slow jams show doesn't make the station 'horrible' overall.

Nearly none of those stations attempt to offer any variety to their programming or song rotations hence why they are ranked as 'horrible'. No one in their right mind (and a trained ear) can say to a station that spins its top power song more than 75+ weekly and think it's a quality programmed station. Program directors have corporate dictates to follow but they aren't forced to spin the group of songs that much.

KUBE 93.3 Seattle WA: I'd like to see variety on this one too. Classic hip hop mixed with the new stuff would be good for my nephew's taste.

The Box has been garbage since day one of its Radio One ownership. CBS has an opportunity to shift KKHH and directly target KBXX, but they are trying to play the 'middle man' in the market. At the end of the day, CBS knows its to it has an overall advantage to shift its musical presentation more 'urban-leaning' because KBXX's position and overall 6+ can be easily challenged.
KKFR is definitely more urban sounding than WJMN now. ... depending on how you look at it. WJMN may have some "harder" hip hop songs in regular rotation here and there, but KKFR has less pop content, or strictly hip hop, r&b, and urban influenced pop hits. I guess the region also dictates how the regional play unfolds; While WJMN has harder east coast hip hop and r&b hits in rotation that aren't heard on KKFR, KKFR has some west coast material that isn't being played on east coast rhythmics or urbans.
Now that I think of it, there was really no point in writing this or sharing this useless knowledge, but I already said it, so I might as well go ahead and press post.

Hey kilamanjero, did you mean Power 96.5 Miami? Or Power 95.3 Orlando? I think that Power 96.5 Miami is a very good station, they are definitely a balanced Rhythmic, and I like them because they play dance cuts as well as not shying away from the biggest urban hits. One of the few Rhythmics in the country where I can see "Afrojack - Take Over Control" right next to "Miguel - Sure Thing".
As for Power 95.3 in Orlando, they leave much to be desired. I have to be honest, Power 95.3 seems like a station where a person just made up a 40 song playlist, put it on their iPod, and put it on shuffle. Their imaging is also weak too. Didn't Power 95.3 used to be alot better back in the day? I know DJ Prostyle was there at some point, but he made a huge jump up the market ladder to Power 105.1 in New York.

I'm talking about Power 95.3 Orlando aka the joke. That station has always been garbage since its infancy. I can't even fathom how 102 Jamz is chasing after them when its programming is awful to say the least.

Basically Crawford is not trying and all its doing is making WGCI look good. And their ratings have tanked since airing Joyner running off all their young demos. Now they gotta start all over with Ricky Smiley. Sad enough Chicago is close to only having one Hip Hop station just like Los Angeles. Making all these changes.

Crawford just doesnt even try. WSRB 106.3 is a useless signal in the Chicago area which is why they decided to put Joyners show on 92.3. Crawford did very little promotion when Steve Harvey aired on WSRB a few years back. Ricky Smiley never heard his show yet. Tom Joyners show also airs on KTCX Magic 102.5 in Beaumont TX which is a Urban Contempary station owned by Cumulus.
Don't expect me to listen to Tom Joyner. These PD's on these fake hip hop stations are a crock of dog... Pardon my french. IMHO having a syndicated show catered a Urban AC air on a mainstream urban station makes the programming seem fragmented. . It drives me bananas.Tom Joyner roots began in Chicago which is why he so popular. When WVAZ dropped his show for Steve alot of anger in the african american community. Not really the PD's fault its sales and coperate in the ears of the PD. Its just Clear Channels way of getting back when Radio One brought Tom's show and aired it on Radio One stations stealing it away from Clear Channel stations such as KMJM in St Louis, WMDX Detroit, WDAS Philly and WVAZ in Chicago. That Celion Dion song might have been the one Babyface wrote for her which i can inmagine getting airplay during the 90's. I remeber hearing it on KOST, KTWV and KBIG in the 90's but thats it

Bro first and fore most Hall & Oats & Michael Mc.Donald sound black so I can accept them being played on the quiet storm program on a hip hop station. Which song did Babyface write for Celine Dion because the only songs that were recoginizable by Celine was my "Heart Will Go On" from 1997-98 the theme song from Titanic and "Because You Loved Me" from 1995-96. It made sense during that time because they were crossover hits. It may not work in cities with a heavily african american population but here on the westcoast with more diversity it could work. KHHT would be a perfect example. When im flipping stations Art Laboe will play some of Celine Dion hits. It works because alot of latinos and asains like her music. WVAZ in Chicago most likely will not. With the older demos they can get away with it. Just not the young demo. Its just a shock when you hear your favorite station play music you would never imagine would get airplay. Same thing happen in Kansas City when KPRS played Christina Aguilera "Genie In A Bottle" in 1999. I thought I was listening to either CHR's 93.3 or 95.7
