IMHO having a syndicated show catered a Urban AC air on a mainstream urban station makes the programming seem fragmented. What's this I'm hearing about these faux rap station playing soft pop hits by Celine Dion on their quiet storm program. Yikes. It drives me bananas.

I feel like Hot 93.7 Hartford and X102.3 West Palm Beach used to be the stations that would have a balance of Rhythmic Pop and Urban, but it seems that CBS Radio has traded those spots with WPGC 95.5 and 102 Jamz Orlando, cause WZMX and WMBX definitely aren't adding as much rhythmic product nowadays as they were a year or two ago.
I can deal with gospel early on Sunday mornings. I love listening to the old school lunch shows because the old school plays the music I like. I just didn't expect a mainstream urban soft pop though.Nate Wesley said:BJordan said:Don't expect me to listen to Tom Joyner. These PD's on these fake hip hop stations are a crock of dog... But you say that as if there aren't stations 'going old school' on lunch hours or Saturday mornings. Or giving gospel praise on Sunday mornings.
That's assuming, of course, what you're talking about is so criminal--we are on the Rhythmic CHR board, after all.
I love X102.3 out of West Palm Beach. They've gone all Urban music wise but still has that party station sound IMO. Too bad they don't blast into Miami cause Lord knows 99 JAMZ is some bull****.Martin Mac said:I guess we can add 102 Jamz Orlando to this boat since their chasing Power 95.3 now with the addition of Pop titles into their playlist. Only car reception. The last time I was visiting OKC in 2005 I could only get it in the car. Most of the time I was listening to KKWD, KJYO or KRMP AM which has a better signal. Sounds like a college station. Lawton OK can get KVSP clear and KJMZ locally at the same time. Sucks that Perry couldnt get a better signal or buy another station. That city deserves a full power Urban and Urban AC station. KVSP new tower is at full power 100,000 watts but only covers the heart of the state

Perry's Augusta FOXIE 103 is horrible too. What use to be a heritage Urban under Radio One's wing has turned into college radio Hip-Hop.

X102.3 was always as 'urban' a most Southern urban stations. X102.3 only regularly spun a handful of crossovers that practically mimicked what WPGC had briefly tested in its overnight hours or weekends during the 2003-2007 era.
hiphopRadio said:power 95.3 in Orlando definitely the worse and they call themselves a hip-hop station but majority of their playlist is pop. and its a tight playlist on top of it. They only have 4 hour mix show during the weekend on a Sunday evening mixing top40. i still don't know how they are beating 102 jamz.

I can agree that this is a fairly tight list. But the majority of what's here has already been on mainstream urbans nationwide. I don't see any Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Gym Class Heroes, Jason Derulo, Black Eyed Peas...
Some of ya'll really need to drop the 'one right way' theme that every urban or rhythmic CHR ought to sound like.
hiphopRadio said:Martin thanks for that list.... i was wrong i take that back but they definitely cut back on lady gaga , and some other pop songs you would usually hear on a top 40. Their playlist always been tight for years, and their not quick to add new music they usually wait if it gets hot nation wide. My last statement i made was based on last time i heard on station which was last month.
