OK WPLM has flipped, but to what?

I saw that earlier, but since we can't split threads here, I went for a new topic.

So I take it all the "Today's Easy, Easy 99.1 " stuff is gone?

Well it's good too.
That one is dated and needs to expire soon.

I lost power so I don't know, but was Ron's show on last night ?

It took them forever to get a functioning website up and running, now if they change the imaging to something else, I wonder how long it will take them to get a new website up.

Based on what I heard today, they're Still "Easy", but I guess they finally realized that the whole "Today's Easy...Easy 99.1" branding was too redundant, so now they're back to just "Today's Easy 99.1". Speaking of going back, their new playlist--which I would give 4 stars for just because it's better than anything current IMO, The Doors, The Stones, all the good stuff--seems to be a regression to what they were about 3-4 years ago or so, definitely trying to reach the more lucrative baby boomer demos. I wouldn't call it an out & out Format Change, but If I were them, I'd think of a new moniker if everything catches on.

I wouldn't say it's back to what they were 3-4 years ago, because that was soft AC. Seems like they've just taken out Gwen Stefani and Nickelback, and put in some softer classic rock songs. It's a shame if they're going to go jockless with it. Of course Delilah is still on, which clashes with the music of the rest of the day, as believe it or not, Delilah is actually playing those Gwen Stefani and Nickelback songs now.

Yes.com shows "The best songs. The biggest stars". I don't know how dated that is. Weren't they using that in the past? Checking out the daytime playlist they seem like a deeper version of Cool 102: The Reaper, Going To Caifornia, Spill The Wine, La Grange, House Of The Rising Sun by Frijid Pink which I don't think anyone plays. There's some newer stuff during the day like Macy Gray and The Fray. Then at night here come Lady A, Christina Aguilera, Marc Anthony, Lee Ann Womack. Maybe they're in transition. I've always liked the station because regardless of what direction the format has gone, you really never know what you're going to hear. I'm not sure how well that concept works in reality but the night time stuff has to go.

Yeah I tried it last night on a boombox--there it was in between Sports Hub and WCRB--but it sounded like swing etc., prob a speciality show

Now playing "You Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" (remake?)
"It's always, always about the music. Today's Easy. Easy 99.1" (liner)"
into Linda Ronstadt "You're No Good"
"It's refreshing...real music...easy to listen to. Combining your love of music with the
need to refresh and relax"
into...ads

>>trying to reach the more lucrative baby boomer demos
maybe a bit like WBOQ "Your good time favorites, NorthShore 104.9"?

The oldest of the boomers hit 65 on Saturday (1/1/2011). By the idiot standards of radio demographics, that takes them out of the money demos and puts at least one foot of each boomer in the grave. Maybe because there are so many of them, the boomers will be able to fight the one-foot-in-the-grave stereotype for a while but I wouldn't count on it. The industry mythology is that once you hit 65, the only thing you buy is a funeral. Still, formats aimed at boomers may have a few years left; AS lasted for a few years after the first of the Depression babies crossed 65. But the format became a tougher and tougher sell and by now, I think you can count all the stations that run it in the US on your fingers and toes. Moreover, several of those stations are listener supported (like WJIB and KBRD) and one AS station (WHAT) is rumored to have at least one foot in the grave itself.

I listened from about 420 to 630 this morning when I was out plowing, and I did not hear the mic open once the whole time.

They did run the Rosary, which I believe is paid programming.

What ? As Forrest Gump might have said: "Clueless is as clueless does." LOL !

"They did run the Rosary, which I believe is paid program"
--------------------
I don't think it's paid. The station's been doing Rosary for a long time. I'd say going back to the 80's, following Bill O'Connell's overnight show (after he left Ch.5-Sports).

Sounds like they're borrowing a page out of 93.7's playbook by going jockless.....just with a music rotation appealing to an older demographic.

WPLM trying to appeal to the older demogaphic is certainly nothing new for them. How many of you folks out there remember how many decades they spent running a mix of Big Band and Dixieland Jazz?

The fact that I remember that part of WPLM's existence means that, of course, I've just dated myself! ;D

I loved WPLM's Dixieland/swing format, and remember Bill Mulligan and Gary Collard. Also, their nighttime "Hall Of Music".
