OKAY, did anyone know that WAIT 850 AM is a Christian music format now?

Sadly, we are probably going to need another two or three generations before this religious nonsense works its way out of society. As they continue to lose power and influence over science minded people, they are going to try harder and harder to bring in the less "informed" by putting the message everywhere.

As long as they continue to get people to give them money, they will support formats like this, even at a loss if needed, to keep the message out there as long as possible.

Did you see Religulous? Great documentary that points out how disturbing it all is.

Bummer. 2 or 3? Yeah I heard of it. I'm going to have to watch it soon. Sounds like a good laugh :D

Don't watch for the laugh - watch to arm yourself with knowledge. It actually made me angry when I learned that the whole "Jesus" story pre-dates Jesus. (just thinking about how much time as a kid got wasted in doctrine classes and mass.) It's also a bit uncomfortable. Mahr is pretty "in your face" to all the religious types he spoke with.

I wish the movie had gotten more radio coverage. A few hosts talked about it, but most are too afraid to anger their listeners. Those who have chosen science over fairy tales are approaching 16% of the US population. Compared to other minorities with radio representation, that's a huge percentage, and it's growing! The US Jewish population is around 2%? They get lots of air time, coverage, representation, etc.

Let's not forget that radio is a business, period. If Christian radio sells then great. If something else does better, that's find also.

Personally, I have always had questions of faith. It was like when I went to Saint Leonard's school as a child. If I raised questions, I was shot down and so I kept quiet.

I learned via a religious station in Oklahoma that any station can make money if it can identify the right market niche and serve it well. Putting it simply, Religion sells.

By the way, through the friendship of a former SJ, I have come to terms with my doubts but it never changed my view that religion can be a media money maker.

About WAIT being christian, I hope they do well.

The guy who made the movie may be as capable of including errors in the movie, as some of the religious are at mixing some errors into their faith message.

There are those of us who would suggest to you that this IS NOT a science vs. religion smackdown.

Religious radio has indeed done much to make the skeptical more skeptical, and to make them laugh out loud. There are religious broadcasts built around "mining for money". But how do you explain the quiet little church that could be just down the street from where you live. If they are still quiet and still little, they ain't about the money! The three-ring circus mega-churches may have to explain some of their gaudiness but most of them will pass "the smell test" if you check into them.

For those of you who have never run into a church group or event that left you thinking: "Wow. Maybe these people have a little bit of something worthwhile after all!" I have to apologize that we haven't bumped into you yet.

There are MANY successful and highly profitable Religious and/or brokered stations. There is little operating expense involved and you can hire minimum wage kids to run the programs.

Part of the trouble with that goofy movie is the sources he used. NOT authoritative. What makes you think HIS opinion is correct - when people have DIED for and followed Jesus for 2000 years.

As I see it....
You can believe a "comedian with a chip on his shoulder" or you can do further study.

So is anyone else livid like I am? Don't we have enough of these stations?

Yep...They should have gone to a Rock format, cause we certainly don't have enough of those...or maybe a "Music Of Your Life" format for all the folks on fixed income, Social Security etc...

But alas, they chose to put on a format that filled a need for a neglected group, Hispanic Christians, and they hope to make some money doing it...

What a crazy concept eh?

Word up. I'm now going up and down the dial searching for something other than WBBM to listen to, since the recent changes at WLS. -_-

The entire Bible is the "Jesus" story. Dates all the way back to the creation.

Good luck.

Thanks. I forgot that WVON is another and the only other one besides WBBM late at night (since Coast to Coast is on half of the time it was and Roy Master's been completely removed from WIND's list.. :p
