I don't want to debate format, etc. I am looking for a LIVE radio station in the Lakes Region.

So far from what I have read, Mix 94.1 appears to be live most of the time and no one else, is that the bottom line?

VT debate aside, in addition to my other interests in the lakes region I am a boater and severe weather can and does come up very quickly on Winnipesaukee, so I would like to know what stations I can tune to, and that I can tell the people who rent from me to tune to, that is LIVE and LOCAL!

That's all.

God (if it was him) invented a little thing called EAS for severe weather my friend. The best thing about it, it works! The National Weather Service is usually pretty good with giving that information out, so I'm sure they'll let you know.

Also, the Lakes Region is a very small market, I wouldn't expect too much live info from them. Your best bet would be Manchester/Dover/Rochester/Portsmouth stations, since the signals still come in quite well over the lake. Try WGIR 101.1, WOKQ/WPKQ 97.5-103.7, WHEB 100.3.

I'd even think WLNH/WFTN would be good at keeping that kind of info, but then again, I'd still personally listen to the stations from the Manchester/D.P.R. markets above for the live info, or the National Weather Service Radio on 162.40 Mhz.

Cheers!

I haven't listened to country for any length of time, does WOKQ cover Lakes Region wx or do they focus on the seacoast?

As for EAS, when the NWS issues a weather bulletin and requests EAS activation I NEVER activate it, I read the information in the breaks.

So the advice seems to be put my VHF Marine radio on scan between 16 and NWS and forget about radio?

Okay, back to topic
So far Mix 94.1 is live on all but one or two weekend shifts and WOKQ has a newsteam but do they have lakes region information?

No one else is live and local?

So why is Mix still live except when they're running satellite fare? Given that the other stations in their group are all bird-fed outside of AM drive, I doubt that it's out of any great desire to provide service. Do they not have an automation system capable of VTing?

Back to BakersBookstores request, bottom line, I really don't think you're going to find too much in the Lakes Region as far as live airwork. WPKQ 103.7 will be your best bet my friend. They cover the "north country" from above I would say Laconia north. Granted WPKQ is broadcasted from Dover, NH, but they get all of their information out there for their entire coverage area.

Best of luck to you

WPNH, WSCY are bird fed. WLNH, WLKZ, The Hawk are a combo of live and VT. WFTN is live and bird fed at night. They are live because they are the cash cow for the group. Thay do not have the capabilty to VT. WPKQ, WFTN and WLNH are the best bet for live news and weather updates in the daytime. WPKQ for around the clock. Remember WPKQ is licensed to North Conway which is in Carrol county. Lakes Region towns of Moultonboro and Wolfeboro are part of Carrol county on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee!

I thought WPKQ was licensed to Berlin (though even in the WZPK days the studio was in N. Conway). When did the COL change?

Probably when the calls changed?

"...WLNH are the best bet for live news and weather updates in the daytime".

Actually WLNH is what started this thread. They used to be the best bet for news and weather updates but when I discovered WLNH was Voice Tracking Dan Justin in afternoon drive that is when I decided to ask people who live and work in the Lakes Region what stations are still "live".

So to wrap it up, MIX94.1 and WPKQ/(WOKQ) are still live most of the time, anyone else or is that it?
