Greetings from Disneyland on the Patomac River...inside sources in the OKC market say something big has just happened....Stay tuned kiddies....finally a new day....dont touch that dial.
Here's another hint...someone new has been spotted in the halls of 50 Penn...as Flounder gushed in Animal House..."Oh Boy...is this gonna be great!" Wish I could be in OK to watch this unfold.
I wonder what this could be. Radio in OKC is exceptionally boring since Cumulus bought out Citadel and basically turned the stations into Jan Jeffries' iPod.
The thing is though, I can't think of a format, other than maybe smooth jazz, that's not covered in OKC. Perry recently finally brought an FM urban AC to the market, which was the last major hole. The problem is not the formats but the quality of the stations we have.
Amen to that. Many stations in this market seem sub-par anymore. Consolidation has allowed larger groups to simply stepchild many signals in the market and get away with it.
Where's the big shake-up? "Where's the kaboom!? There's supposed to be an earth-shattering Kaboom!!" LOL! All joking aside, the simple addition of a new P.D. with no resources will be a long and hard uphill battle for him to make marked improvements.
I have always wished Clear Channel would try urban on 94.7. Classic Rock is overdone in OKC. A full-power urban station would quickly knock out Power 103.5 and Wild, both terrible stations, Power because of its signal and Wild because of Jan Jeffries.
